Remove the USB cradle/cable from computer. Do a uninstall of Activesync, then re-install of Activesync 3.7.1 (do all these while cradle is un-connected)

Then put the X30 on cradle, and plug the cradle USB into computer. This time, your computer should detect your Dell Axim USB cradle.

If a USB -> Serial adaptor wont work you will need to see about the pin-outs on the connector. If there is a serial port there (there is BTW) then an adaptor for it can be made manually. Search google for "dell (x3 OR x30) serial connector" this should yield the bet results as the X3 and X30 use the same connector.

Can you use an IRDA dongle, not all of them are USB based, e.g. http://www.usbmax.com/IR-210S_IR-210..._Cable_SIR.cfm

Serial based ones are usually more expensive than USB ones though :-(

You should be able to create the partership with the IRDA then use wifi there after (which will be much faster).

Good Luck,

I suppose you could use this: http://www.yourmobiledesk.com/produc...fm?prodID=4973

along with a null-modem cable.
