The last few times ive tried to download cabs straight onto my axim, when i click on the download link, a new page loads in PIE that seems to contain the actual code from the program. why is this happening instead of the download dialog popping up?
It allows you to choose exactly which directory the file goes to and to also keep the CAB file for future use and not just disappear into thin air once you've clicked on it. :approve:
If that doesn't help, then you might want to start using ActiveSync to install your programs- most programs won't install right without FIRST going through ActiveSync...

Unfortunately thats a problem with IE, im sure there's
an easier work around then this.....
but this is what I do,
Let the cab file fully load in IE (Text will look like garbage)
After its done loading, open up a file epxlorer like Total Commander
or Resco, and search for CAB files with in the windows directory,
or if you know where the temp files are, just browse to there ..
the cab file will be in the temp directory.

Silentknight - once you have downloaded a program onto your PPC, can one delete the CAB file or is the CAB file required for the ongoing operation of the program?
The reason I ask is that when I direct the program to be downloaded into built-in memory or even the SD cared for reasons of conserving main memory space, there still seems to be residual CAB files in my main memory. Are these CAB file necessary?
p.s. Thank you for the great WiFi/Bluetooth Utility and Power Management programs! Very impressive work!
The CAB files are generally deleted after install... its odd
that they would remain unless you used the "CAB Install" program
and checked "Do not delete" ... in which case its safe to remove
them as long as you dont need them any longer.

I've got the problem with WMVs... used to work, now PIE just displays the guts of the link...
PIE doesn't work well with downloading, I find. I use ftxpBrowser which allows standard 'Save As' type downloading. I believe most 3rd party browsers allow this...
