Moved progs from "default" to "built in storage"

I bit the bullet. I uninstalled everything I've installed in the last month.

I found out last night that all of the programs install into volatile memory, RAM, by default. The most stupid design I've ever heard of since I started using computers 20 years ago. I was wondering why, with no programs appearing to run, I had almost no memory left.

After uninstalling all the programs and reinstalling them in Built-in storage, I now have about half my memory available for whatever needs memory when a program is running.

In terms of starting the programs, it takes about a second or two at the most.

I highly recommend making the switch.

Side benefit: if you have to do a hard reset, it's my understanding that you don't lose all your installed programs.

Though you still may have to reinstall programs, as some have registry settings and files dumped in the windows dir and thus won't work by simply re-creating a shortcut!

Sort of interesting. I've been trying some of the high mem use programs like Pocket Streets. A 10M map that used to take several minutes to load, if it would load at all, now loads in less than ten seconds. If I left it zoomed into someplace, it loads almost instantly. And the map is on the SD card.

However, I moved my video reel to built in storage (also 10M) and it runs crappaciously. If I know I'm going to be showing it to someone, I'll have to move it back to RAM temporarily.

The other inefficient thing about the PPC is that I can't think of any way to turn it off completely. You'd think there'd be a way to do a shutdown like on a PC, where the RAM is stored to non-volitile memory and power really is removed from the system.

I'm really pleased with the change though. Altered my memory priority setting to use the RAM for running programs and have a full 28 megs available. So even with the programs running off the slower BIS, they still run faster because they're not competing for limited resources.

Once again, I thank the Aximsite community for making me aware of something I never would have thought of or figured out on my own if someone hadn't mentioned it.
