Wow. Betaplayer, from what you all say, seems to rock. The speed, stability (enven UNSTALBE versions), versitility, and useability is astounding. It supports a huge variety of codecs, too. But I've made had a revelation too now, and that is this: I find the VP61 codec the ultimate codec in terms of speed, quality and compression. Will/could it ever support that? Just for curiousity's sake at least...

Seriously, it's one of the first programs I installed when I first got my Axim (on the recommendations from this forum). I can't believe this program is still free, considering the quality.

What encoder is best for video to play on Betaplayer?
I've been recording tv shows in mpeg2 format for watching on my mediacenter, but have been using pocketDivxEncoder to crunch some of them for betaplayer on the axim.
Is there a better way (1-step, not 2-step process)???

Dude, using BetaPlayer I was able to play DivX over WiFi from mapped network drive! movie was in original resolution (BetaPlayer scaled it down on the fly) and it was smooth, using 90% of my 624MHz CPU :)
What were you using to stream the video?
I can get betaplyer to see a file on my destop pc, but playing back a hires AVI leads to a lot of pauses as the file is read over the network.

are you using the latest 0.093a? try manually setting 50% zoom (hopefully you won't loose or zoom into too much into the highres video), because wmmx is currently only used with 50%,100%,200% zoom.

No I was using an older version. Using zoom on the new version reduces the number of pauses but doesn't eliminate them (doubling the cache size didn't appear to make a difference).

there is not much to be done more. the wifi speed drops a little compared to simple file copy speed because of the cpu load by the video decoding and the bandwidth is not enough for the high res videos. the player has to pause for the buffer to load.
