Thanks for that tip. I've been all over Dell's website and found a lot of very useful stuff (for other things) here. It seems everywhere I look, I don't find anything that addresses this particular problem though.

I do have another question though. When XP detects new hardware, what's going on there? Is it possible that because the new hardware was detected prematurely in my case, some problem exists related to the fact that the hardware was detected out of (Active)Sync (pun intended)?

Thanks.

I think the best advice for you is to go to the AximSite Tutorials, do a LOT of reading and doing what is contained within.

THEN come back with some specific questions with detailed, step-by-step lists of what you have done and/or tried and are still having problems with.

As it is, your current "experimentation" is serving only to confuse yourself and us!

Problem solved!

Here's what happened...

I finally got a Dell tech support person on the phone who took a different approach. He had me put the CD in the drive and took me to a folder on the CD that had the IS_SETUP icon. I clicked on that and that was it. ActiveSync loaded fine and I am up and running. Tadaaaa!

Hmm Activesys

I would go to Google Groups search for a solution.
There are some issued resolved in installing ActiveSync on XP.
If you search for solution Activesync you'll get some hits. Perhaps one will fix your problem.

I Thanks.
