Mad PPC -> Windows XP Share problem

Okay, using the WiFi card on my Dell Axim X30, I can get the internet on
Pocket IE, I go to File Explorer, and go to open a network share. I type in
\\192.168.1.102 (the IP of the computer sharing the folders) and click ok.
It then says "Error: The network path was not found"
I have checked to ensure that the \\192.168.1.102 address works on a normal
computer and it does.

I have tried just about every combo of "Network Management" there is (My
ISP, My Work Network / My ISP, My ISP / My Work Network, My Work Network /
My Work Network, My ISP)

And I have also tried both "The Internet" and "Work" under "Configure
Network Adaptor: My network card connects to:"

I've spent over 4 hours STRAIGHT on this stupid problem...WTF AM I DOING
WRONG!?!?!?

It was working but I did a hard reset because XCPUScalar kept f__ing up. Now
I can't get the bastard to work

i also followed these instructions: http://members.cox.net/ajarvi/WM2003...onManager.html

and no go!

Just another idea, don't know if it will help, but...

When using the two back slashes, that indicates a computer name, not an address. For example, \\DESKTOPPC would be valid, but I'm not sure \\192.168.1.1 would be. If trying the local IP, just use the IP, don't include the two slashes.

Make sure everything is set to "work network" and "work". Then insted of the ip address, use the actual name of the computer that you are trying to access which can be found by right clicking on My Computer...properties...Computer Name tab. When you type the computer name, it should be like this...\\MyCompter\. Hope this helps.

Peace,

Thanks for the Fast replies...BUT....

I've tried setting everything to Work/Work Network and i've tried accessing \\192.168.1.102, \\compaq (the server name), \\compaq\share, \\192.168.1.102\share, 192.168.1.102, compaq

I've also tried Resco File Explorer, PE Explorer 2003, Bizzdev Net Use...

I've even completely hard reset and erased all memory and went from scratch

NONE of them work. should I send my axim back to dell?

has ANYONE else had this problem?

When you type the compters name, type it exactly like this. ...\\computersname\.....two slashes in the front and one slash at the end with no "share" after it. Also try this link. It greatly helped me when I set up my network.

Very simple and easy to follow step by step instructions. Hope this helps.

Still no go...

I'm thinking it's broken. I'm gonna call dell and ask for a new one.

Some wireless AP's (many d-links) have options to disable communication between wirless clients that are connected to them. So Wireless Client # 1 and Wireless Client #2 would not be able to see each other if this option is enabled. If the PC you are trying to connect to is a wireless client, you might want to check your AP to see if it has that option enabled.

use the name that appears on My Network Places, not ip
make sure some folders shared
e.g. if the host name on My Network Places is "mingkee", then put //mingkee

ok, i just upgraded my firmware on my ap (linksys) and now it's working just fine.

The weird thing is that the only wireless connection was the PPC though. all the others were hard-wired. well thanks everyone for your help. I appreciate it.

I think the new flash upgrade you done to the router also set everything back to default.

Always make sure the the router is set up for G&B 802.11 protocols as the Axim only works with the B standard!

Well, I was hoping for some more illumination on this subject, but everyone elses answer is "Upgrade your Firmware!"

Too bad my router came with the latest firmware already installed.

If anyone has any more comments, I use the Linksys WRT54GS with 2.07.1

PtarThanes - you still having that same problem?

try downgrading the router if you can. I'm using 2.04.4 but that's the WRT54G (not S) just whatever you do... DO NOT upgrade to the open source firmware...i think it's called Solgar or something like that. That's when I first got the problem and you CANT change back to the regular firmware :-(
