Hi I just ordered my Dell Axim X30 low today. I've been visiting this site for the past couple of weeks trying to make my decision on which PDA to choose. I had the Palm Tungsten E and Toshiba e405 as my other choices. The user replaceable battery of the Axim helped me to decide. Plus I tried one out at Dell's kiosk in the mall. I hope I didn't mess up by not thetting the Axim Mid but my needs don't justify the added cost. I'm sure another 6 months I will probably wish I had, but then there are Wi-Fi cards I can buy. Well I'm off to check out some websites and see what software I can get. You guys and gals have any suggestions. I know I'm going to get something to convert my DVD's (I own). I'm off to Frys to get a 256MB card they have a sale on them here in Dallas.
Location: Vermont... but stuck on Long Island for a few months more...

Hi, Madmouse!
Golden rule of computing: more is better, buy the most you can afford. As you pointed out, you'll exceed your expectations and want/need more, and sooner than you think! The day after I ordered my Axim with a 128 Mb SD card, I wished I had just ante'd up for the 1Gb card...
The other golden rule is that right after you buy whatever you buy, something meaner, faster, bigger, cooler comes out. Perpetually waiting leads to perpetually waiting.
So, enjoy what you got, while you got it!

It's always that way. I'm going to enjoy it till it's time to upgrade again.

one week after i received my x30, Dell started giving free SD cards....
EDIT: Well I cancelled that order and put in a order for the X30 High. I guess I read enough posts on this site to convince me to get the high model
This was a good move. Someone may know different, but there are no wi-fi cards available for the X30. So you would not have been able upgrade. Cost difference isn't that big. Plus having WI-Fi and BT rules. I bought a BT phone a few months ago and can't see living without it now. One of those things you didn't know you needed until you got it.

There are more than enough Wi-Fi and Bluetooth SD cards... Remember- another golden rule of computing- Everything is usually generic! There are very few things that are Axim-X30 specific, but there are many, many things that work on any Pocket PC with an SD card slot (which is all of them, to the extent of my knowledge). Software is even less system-specific. If you have a Pocket PC that meets the system requirements (mhz, RAM, ROM, etc.), it will work. When you see Compatible With stuff on software and it says stuff like h5550 etc. and not the Axim X30, it doesnt mean that it only works with the listed pocket pcs- it means (usually) that it was tested with those pocket pcs. Most likely, it'll work with any pocket pc.
As an added tip, don't use "Axim X30" in Google searches just for that reason. Just search for "pocket pc games" or whatever, NOT "Axim X30 games".
