I have a X30 that I just got 2 days ago. Was I surprised when I turned on WI-FI and it found a website giving me traffic conditions.
But when I got home, it was clueless in accessing my Belkin 802.11b wireless router.
But I am clueless in where to start in how to access the router.
Suggestions?
If it worked one place but not at home, then it seems likely you need to tweak the settings on your home router. Do you have MAC filtering enabled? If so, you'll need to add the MAC address of your X30. Do you have WEP security set up on the Belkin router? If so, you'll need to add the WEP key (probably in hex format) into your PPC.
You might find some help from the WiFi Guide linked from my signature.

Hi there- first post,
I followed your instructions to try to connect to my wireless router with my brand new X30. However, when I got as far as 'connections' 'Advanced', the options were: 'Select Networks', Dialing Rules' and 'Exceptions', rather than select locations' and 'network card'. Can you help?
I just changed the WiFi Guide yesterday morning to reflect the fact that the X30 doesn't give you the Network Card choice on the advanced page. I've suggested on the guide (and in a post yesterday) that you should be able to make the appropriate settings through the Dell WLAN utility or the Odyssey client. I haven't gotten any feedback as to whether it works, so let me know how you fare.

I'm not really faring at all. I know this is pathetic but I've been using a Palm for years now and I can't even seem to make the most basic of connections. My Activesync is working but can't see my bluetooth com port. On a scan my X30 seems to 'see' 'default' but stays at 'connecting'.

Hi again,
I think I've followed your instructions between the three applications. Connections, Proxy Server connects to the internet checked. Configure wireless networks in the Dell Wlan utility my network 'default' is showing as available but when I press and hold and select connect it just stays at conecting forever. Networks to access is set to 'only access points'. Network Adapters I've selected Dell WLan Driver from the list 'cos nothing seems to happen at all if I don't. Network card connects to 'work'. In the WLan utility Client shows as 'ready' and Network: 'searching', Connection: <nothing>, Base station: <nothing>, Channel: changing constantly up to 11, Encryption: No Encryption. In Odyssey Client Connect to is checked with 'defauly' (my network) selected. Status- Status: searching for access point', Network (SSID): <nothing>, Access POint: <nothing>, Packets (in/out): <nothing>. I can't think of any more details. Could it be my router setting?
Sorry, I missed your post yesterday. At this point, it may be an issue with the router. Some people have had success just by changing the channel setting of the router. Make sure the router will allow another IP number to be assigned. If you have a G router, make sure it’s set to mixed or B only. You also want to make sure the router is broadcasting its SSID, no encryption is set and MAC filtering is disabled. All three of these things should eventually be utilized but it’s easier to troubleshoot while they are turned off and since you mention WEP is off on the Axim, it definitely needs to also be off on the router. Some routers allow you to set a long or short preamble and users have noted their X30s will only associate when it’s set to long (if it’s already set to long, try changing it to short).

I forgot to say. I was in Glasgow City Centre and I managed to connect to 2 hotspots although it then gave me a 'page not found' for a couple of addresses I know to be OK and wouldn't let me connect to a web page.
I have a Axim 30/624, and I've been able to connect to wifi networks like hotspots, it recognize the network automatically, but at home it says searching and just changes channels, I talked to Dell and they say that it might be the router, I use a D-Links DI-624, anyone with the same problem? Thanks :approve:
I am using the 624. Just hooked it up following wooch's directions and it is working great right now. Sending this reply to you from my back deck right now. Check with him on about downloading the directions.

Could you point me at these instructions. I've had my X30 for a week and I'm no further on. I can connect to some hotspots but web pages are 'not found'. My X30 can 'see' my home router but I can't connect.

Thank you everyone! In the end it just needed a firmware update from Sitecom which fixed it immediately. I'm sitting on my couch like a smug wee boy writing this message. Now if anyone's still not completely fed up with me you could check out my 'activesync/bluetooth thread...
