Can I add a wireless adaptor to my desktop and connect to the Internet via that? Using WinXp Sp2?

TIA!

Yes, you can but it may take some effort to get it working.

I have not tried it with a WIFI adapter... however I was able to accomplish this with a bluetooth adapter.

The two issues that I had trouble with were getting the bluetooth devices to recognize each other. then getting activerync to sync through that connection

Turns out, you don't have to use a wired connection to establish the partnership as I have heard in the past.

you just configure the blaetooth on the desktop to establish a comm port, then activesync will see the Axim as if were connected via a serial cable. Of course it operates at bleutooth speeds.

Tell me about it

I added a USB Wireless Network Adapter and tried to set up an Ad Hoc network between that and my X30 and somehow got it to work for one evening and then it stopped working and for the life of me I cannot seem to get it connected again whether I supply IP's or let MS ICS through my regular NIC supply the IP's I cannot get it to work.

If anyone has successfully set this up PLEASE tell us how you did it.

TIA,

Darren

Thats my setup right now, and I havent had any real problems at all. You just have to SHARE to current internet connection on the XP machine, and use something like a USB wifi adapter. I got one free (after rebate) from Syntax. Once set up, let your Axim discover the AdHoc network. You dont have to do anything but type in the WEP key (if you have one setup), and then give it a minute or two to assign an IP address. Done!

At most you have to REPAIR the wifi adapter you are using on the XP machine, and then let your Axim try connecting again. Use the DELL WLAN utility to repair the axim as well.

Click on the signal bars at the bottom. Once locked on, click ADVANCED, and then NETWORK TROUBLESHOOTING. If you have the generic 169.254.XX.XX, then click repair.

Anyway, thats all it takes for me. Good Luck!

If you guys feel trusting, load VNC Server on your machine, and PM me your IP. I'll go in and set up the machine. You can witness what im doing, and ensure Im not f**kin' with ya!
