How many hours to set up internet via bluetooth?

I have been trying all day to configure my Axim so that I can access the internet using bluetooth and my home pc. I have probably been working at it for about 12 hours but haven't been successful. I checked out Ted's bluetooth guide but it is for some other OS other than Window's XP.

My question is this:

How many hours did it take you to set up a Bluetooth PDA using your PC to access the internet? I only want to know how long it took you to do it the first time. (I'm sure it gets easier once you decipher how to do it.) Did you try and just give up or did you have somebody else do it for you?

It took me roughly the same time. It was extremely frustrating to me too.

After a lot of hours just trying my luck and every single scenario, I uninstalled the BT software and re-installed it and then it magically worked without any problems. I suggest you try the same and hopefully it will be fine. I use a Belkin with minimum instructions, so it is hard to really trouble shoot.

Good luck!

I've given up. Got other priorities in life that need attended to.
Here's the link:

The Bluetooth tutorial was very helpful and informative. I can tell somebody spent alot of time writing it. But I use Windows XP on my computer so for the section about configuring your PC didn't help because the author uses another operating system (Windows 98?).

I admit that Microsoft has won and prevented me from using the Bluetooth functionality. Better luck to you. Let us know how it goes!

When I wrote the guide I took screenshots from my Windows 2000 laptop. When it comes down to it the setup is the same form Windows 2000 and Windows XP. This can also work for Windows 98 SE. The only thing that is different is how you enable ICS.

The concept is really the same regardless what Windows OS you use. The main thing is to get PPC to detect and see your PC via BT and getting ICS to work.

I would suggest to anyone that if you're going to use a BT dongle please make sure that you use a dongle with Widcomm BT drivers. The Widcomm drivers are the best and easiest to work with. Plus they are more stable.

Thanks for the reply, Ted.

I read on the forums somewhere that if you have upgraded to XP service pack 2 then you should use the Windows drivers and uninstall the Widcomm ones.

Do you still recommend Widcomm drivers for people who have XP service pack 2?

P.S. Thanks for taking the time to write the guide. I found it to be very helpful.

Sorry to hear that its not working. I understand how INCREDIBLY frustrating it is to spend all this money for a top of the line PDA and not be able to get the damned thing working because Dell doesn't provide an adequate instruction manual. Or at least provide a tutorial on their website.
