automatically connect a GPS bluetooth device

Does anyone know how I would set my PDA or if software is available to allow me to automatically connect to my Bluetooth GPS without going through the Bluetooth manager and having to manually connect the device each time?

I would like to just turn on the GPS receiver and start the Destinator 3 software -- similar to how my PDA will automatically connect to my WLAN when it is detected.

Thanks.

I am trying to figure out the exact same thing. I see there is a bluetooth registry tweak application for download but it seems to only support several ipaq models (I tried it on my X30). Very annoying to have to select from the BT manager each time I open mapopolis.

Thanks

HKLM\SOFTWARE\WIDCOMM\BtConfig\AutoConnect\000n

Where 000n is the COM port assigned to the GPS. For example if the COM port is 7 then 000n would be 0007. Add the DWORD BtBrowserEnabled with a value of 0. This is not really a glitch, this is as designed. To return to the default behavior either remove the entry or make the value 1.

In case you don't know HKLM = HardwareKeyLocalMachine and this refers to a path in the registry, you will need a registry editor in order to add the above infomation.

Can someone please guide me how to open this path " HKLM\SOFTWARE\WIDCOMM\BtConfig\AutoConnect\000n "

You need a registry editor ... if you search this forum you'll find several suggestions.

I just did it, and it works fine. I'm running the X30 high, with Rikaline GPS reciever and Destinator 3 - Thank god, cause it was really starting to annoy me having to select the receiver eveytime - Thanks.

Hmm, not automatically, but as long as bluetooth is on before you launch the app then the manager should pop up and ask for the device to connect to anyway.

That's how I do it. (if bt is off it still works but then drops 3 secs after connecting when manager exits!)

I am trying to understand what you meant. The original poster did not want the popup and the registry entry gives him that. It will not turn on Bluetooth if it's off. As long as Bluetooth is on, and since it is so low power it could be left on all the time, it will automagically attach without any dialog box.

Have you ever tried using a wired GPS rather than the bluetooth? I'm having troubles with the com port already used and I'm not able to get the axim 30 to find the wired GPS. It will find the bluetooth just fine but I think the wired receiver connects better to the satelites.

Can someone help me with this. I tried to add the DWORD value, but the Bluetooth Browser still comes up. Not only that but my value changes on it's own.

When I set it I see this:

BtBrowserEnabled 0 (0000000) ..not sure about the numbe of zeros

Then I'll launch iGuidance, and it will bring up the BT Browser. I'll check the registry after that and see this:

BtBrowserEnabled 1 (0x00001)

Very strange...help!!

I have just installed Destinator to my x51V and am using a Rikaline 6033 bluetooth GPS but there seems to be one big problem: the Rikaline only offers COM7 or COM8 for a connection and Destinator only looks for the GPS on COM1 -> COM 5. I cannot get a connection! Help Please!
