Windows Media Player 10 and AO5 Problems

Like many of you who recently upgraded to A05, I had problems with the new Media Player 10. The clock spun infinitly while WMP10 was "looking" for the skins folder.

I finally found a solution.

I use Sprite Backup and automatically backup my PPC every night. I performed a HARD reset of my device to get back to a pure A05 system. I checked, and found that Media Player 10 worked just fine.

Then I ran Sprite Backup using the restore function. However, before starting the restore I went to "Restore Options" and checked "Enable Device Upgrade". Then I started the restore process.

Once the restore was completed and the soft reset performed, certain settings needed to be reset (ie. Brightness, Today options, etc.) but Media Player 10 runs perfectly.

I hope this is helpful. :)

I did another thing. After you restore the device using Active Sync, you can see that the media player works, the programs are there, but you can't see them in the uninstall menu. then, before you reset, backup again. the registry will be clean and WMP10 shall work. If the old registry comes back, restore the backup file or just the regisry with whatever utility you prefer.
