Jerky Video encoding in PocketDiVxEncoder

I'm trying to convert AVIs that run at 23.976 fps (NTSC) to AVIs that will run on my X30H. However no matter what options I set in PocketDiVxEncoder, the generated AVI plays back jerkily (as if it's dropping frames)on my PC and X30H.

I've locked the framerate to the original file and unlocked it. Switched on and off B-frames. Switched on/off high quality..encoded videos are all jerky.

However if I encode a PAL (25fps) AVI, the video plays back smoothly on my PC and X30H (evenwith the CPU running at 208Mhz).

Any ideas on how to solve this?

AVIs encode from a PAL souce playback smoothly. AVIs encoded from a NTSC source playback jerky.

Okay I see now - I thought that you were encoding the SAME video at two different settings - and one was causing problems and the other wasn't.

First make sure that PocketDiVxEncoder is encoding at the 'right' frame rate - I soemtimes find that it changes this itself (no idea why).

Also you could you try and force encode the NTFS clip as 25 frames in PocketDiVxEncoder and see what happens (I know it will speed it up by 4% - but that is what happens to all PAL video of US films anyway - just at an earlier stage).

did anyone ever resolve this problem, I'm having the same problem. At first I thought it might be the settings on the betaplayer. Then I thought that my X5 wasn't set to normal mode or not enough memory was allocated toward programs. However, after playing with all of that, I thought finally it might be the secure digital card, until I got one that goes 66x. So the card isn't the problem. I also toyed around with all the settings in pocketdivxencoder. I also tried dr. divx and other encoders. Still I get jerky playback, and as vanamonde said, the only smooth play back I get is from video that is PAL (25 fps). Any help would be appreciated

I'm afraid I ditched PDE, just couldn't get smooth playback. However Dr DiVx works fine for me and Fair Use workd fine for ripping DVDs.

I've used PocketDivxEncoder to encode at least 30 or more videos (mostly mpg conversion) and Its smooth for me.
Windows media and .wmv however is a different story.Unless its very low quality wmv its always pausing (buffering)

It was cinverting from high res AVIs encoded in Xvid that were the main problems. Videos converted from MPEGs playbacked more smoothly.
