Thanks to all who responded, the hard reset did the trick.

Now, a follow up question.

I know about the storage card, but is there a difference between what they refer to as "built-in storage" and "main memory", both storage and program? How do I know how much space I really have left for new programs and data?

Built-in storage is the portion of ROM that is left after teh OS was installed. You can install SW there but you must leave some breathing room for ROM update.
The main memory also RAM can be viewed by going to Start | Settings | Memory | Main Tab. The separation between the program and storage is made for you by the OS. It basically adjusts itself according to your installation and storage data.

as a side note, you "can" overwrite a ROM file - actually, it will warn you as if you want to overwrite it. Indeed, it's not really overwriting it - simply, the OS masks the ROM file that you want to overwrite and makes the pointer point to the new file that you just wrote over the rom file with.

for example, wirelesspower.exe in \windows folder is a built-in rom executable in the x30h. I installed SlientKnight's Wifipower program, and renamed the wifipower.exe to wirelesspower.exe, and copied it OVER the same-named file in \windows. the system warns if you want to overwrite the rom file, simply click ok. now the button (right side) of the unit will activate wifi power instead of wirelesspower. remember, this does NOT actually erase the original file - it only masks it. a hard reset will bring back the original copy.

Built in storage is a non-volatile memory within the device, actually, Strataflash ROM is the official name. The Built-In storage works with "\windows\psmfsd.dll" driver in your unit

"Intel Persist Stream Manager Driver" written by Kevin Chung originally, updated by shihung yu...
Wistron PSM for Intel K3 and L3 Flash

(it's a modified x3 driver , go figure)

and as of currently, the memory area is NOT formattable - on x30s - so be careful when using it (like, when u install programs on it, don't poweroff the device while files are being copied onto it - it can corrupt the memory area and render the BIS not usable and/or defective (meaning you can't delete/overwrite files) - or worse, disappear from your device, even u do a hard reset.
