X30 as car mp3 player

I have a x3 400mhz and I am upgrading to the x30 624mhz. I have used my x3 as a mp3 player in my car but I had to turn the volume WAY up on the axim and the car, this prouced a loud hissing noise anyone know the reason? the mp3's all work fine on my computer i believe most of them are at 192k.

using wmp9 as the mp3 software

What are you using to connect it to the car radio? Have you tried any other devices using the same adaptor to see how they sound in comparison?

If your car audio device has a CD/Aux/Other In-Jack on the faceplate (or anywhere else), you can get a double-ended-male patch cord and plug it into your Axim's Headphone jack > CD/Aux/Other In-Jack.

In order of Quality from high to low:

Direct Connect cable to an aux in on a head unit will be the same quality as the sound coming out of the axim. If you are an audiophile at all or like good music this is the best bet

Casette Adapter, this will have tape quality and it wound sound great and is subject to distortion.

FM Modulator, this will have the quality of your radio but it is the only "wireless" solution. If your looking for ease of use this is the way to go.

if your worried about sound quality then the tape/cd connector is not what u will want to use. the sound will always be poor through it. i use an aux in connection from my aftermarket cd player and it works good. the sound IS quite tho. i think the problem is just the soudn level comming out of the axim and there's no real way around it. the hissing u are getting is proabably because u are turnign the axim all the way up and your car stero up high as well. any elctrical interference is goign to be amplified when u do this. no real way around it in your case tho. an after market cd player will susually clean the signal, amplify it better and add to the signal to help restore some of the quility lost durring compression (sony BBE i think s sony version of this)

i guess im lucky,

i have found that playing my mp3's off GSPlayer produces an iPod quality sound and no distortions at all, my friend had an Aiwa CD deck in his car and it had an AUX/Line-in hole in the front of the faceplate, i hooked up my axim to it through an double ended 3.5mm jack and the sound is extremely close to CD quality. i cant even tell the difference. im telling you WMP for ppc is a nono for anything other than WMV's.

When I listen to music....which isn't often...(well get to that in a bit), I use a cable connection (headphone > Aux-In) on my $30 WalMart AM/FM in-dash radio....no cassette, no CD.....just AM/FM.

I set my X5/400 volume to medium and the volume control on the radio to whatever is necessary to hear it.......sounds fine to me......

........Of course, I'm deaf in one ear (so STEREO really means nothing to me), going so in the other
my '93 (230k mile) Nissan pick-up has no AC so the windows are always down
and my speakers are pretty much like Dixie Cups with refrigerator magnets in 'em.
.......but the sound quality and volume is great by my standards.

the stock stereo in my eclipse has an aux in port. i used to plug in my 20gb archos player, my ipod mini, my ngage, and recently ive used the axim, but it gets very inconvenient pulling it out, plugging it in, then unplugging it everytime i got in and out of the car. now im back to listening to the stereo.

i also have one of those fm transmitters, but the battery kept dieing and whenever i drove through different places it would get staticy and i would have to find another channel to use. so that also got old.
