A05 Windows Media Player 10 Skins problem solved! (without hard reset)

Hey,

I managed to find a way to use a backup from A02 after upgrading to the A05 firmware and still have Windows Media Player 10 working.

The problem I found was that once you restore from an backup made on the A02 firmware, some of the registry keys for Windows Media Player 10 get lost. So I figured after freshly installing new firmware I could export the Windows Media Player 10 registry entries.
So then I restored from a backup made on the A02 firmware, then I imported the Windows Media player registry keys after restoring and then windows media player found the skins happily.

I have attached the registry entries you need.

You will need to install TascalRegEdit v0.83 on your pocket pc first. It's free so you don't have to worry about trial versions or anything like that.

Media Player 10 Re-install Registry keys

Please could you explain how to import the registry keys you provided. Only ....i tried to import the registry keys using Resco Explorer's Registry key editor but it didn't work for me...it still hangs on trying to find skins.

Do i need to first have loaded some skins.

Appreciate if you could explain the exact procedure & sequence.

Thanks.

People, just do it the safe way (hard-reset and re-install).
This way, you know your registry will be nice and clean (just in case there are more to it than registry settings, maybe some files inside windows directory)

I couldn't agree more. Just take the time to reinstall everything and you'll be happy.

Promise! Well, maybe not promise, but pretty sure....well I think you'll be happy...okay, do what you want! Ungrateful sons of.... <grrr>

:)

You have to use the TascalRegEdit program to import the registry file, because that is what I used to export from.

The url again is http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities...lregedit.shtml

After you have that installed its just a matter of clicking file import registry and finding the registry file.

However I do recommend doing the hard reset if possible, but this should fix the skins problem.

I followed the instructions here and successfully installed the regedit file. Now WMP works, at least it loads. But, it still doesn't properly play files from the web directly on the X30. If you go to windowsmobile web site and try to play a movie, for example, it doesn't work. Looks like I will need to re-install everything. It is a shame really, I don't think I will ever install a ROM update from Dell again.

Thank you it almost works...

I installed the update from Dell, after that when I tried to open the Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for Pocket PC, nothing happend, the main screen was black and when I tried to change the skin, it just hung saying: "searching for skins" (never find any, I downloaded a couple from different sites and installed in different locations)

Then I found out this great solution and now the WMP works fine (btw thanks! I can watch my videos and listen to my music), BUT if I try to open a link from WindowsMedia.com I get this error message: "The system cannot find the path specified"

Any Ideas???
