ActiveSync will not let me create the same device name

My battery died on my x3i I did a restore from back-up on my storage card. Now ActiveSync will not let me sync using the same device name. Is there a way to use the same name without having to delete that partnership
Also, is there a way to get Active sync to connect to two PPC at the same time

Just delete the partnership. It should give you the option to keep any files. After you create a new partnership and do a sync, all your PIM data should be copied back. Alternatively, if you have a backup in ActiveSync, connect as a guest and let the restoration bring back the partnership. A backup from the Dell utility or 3rd party programs should bring back the partnership to the time the last backup was created.

You can hav any number of devices as partners with a PC but if you mean having them connected simultaneously, I'm pretty sure Activeync does not support that.

Activesync sucks

How do you delete the partnership? I recently had to hard reset my Dell Axim X3i and now I need to resync to restore the data. I don't have any backup to restore from. Please help before I beat this thing to death.

Thanks
Jason

If you didn't recently do a full back-up, the best thing to do is resync and reinstall all your added software. To delete a partnership, make sure your Axim is not connected and click on the file tab, it's under there.

Worried Similar problem but can't delete

Hi,

I just bought an Axim X3i and have been using it for just over a week now. I took it into work today and when I connected it it ran me through the partnership wizard (something it hasn't done before other than the first time). I had problems trying to copy data on to it as it wouldn't let me open up the explorer funtion (and neither could I open up 'mobile device' on my computer) but that's probably another issue. After giving up, I noticed that it had wiped out my existing documents and e-books. Unfortunately I didn't know about the back-up possibility until just now.

When I connected it to my home computer it started to run through the partnership wizard again and, like the previous poster, it wouldn't let me use the existing one (pocket_pc)and I had to create another. I've tried deleting the new one but every time I re-connect it still comes up with the new name I gave it and I cannot seem to get into my old one. Neither can I seem to get rid of the new one permanently.

Has anyone any idea what to do next or how to help? I'm new to the more advanced things of pdas having just come from a Palm m100 that I've had for the past 3 years!

Thank you for the info cjn14, do you happen to know the best way to do a full backup? I ask because I did one when I first got the axim X3i, but the first two I received would not read the 512mb SDcard. So I tried using the backup utility to restore the settings and docs onto the new (read refurbished) Axim but it came up with an error. Is there a better 3rd party sync program that can sync the Axim?
