If all you're looking at doing is controlling playlists from downstairs then why not look at Remoteamp:
You need to be using iTunes or Winamp but as they're both free to download and are both good player I don't have a problem with that. I wanted to do exactly the same thing that you are asking about (control my music form downstairs) and Remoteamp does the job absolutely perfectly. We're having a bonfire party tonight (I'm in the UK, so apologies if you don't know what that is!) and the Dell will be in its cradle, allowing people to choose what music they want on, kinda like a digital jukebox.
i tried remoteamp, works well and easy to set up, but it costs alot. well then again so do all programs cost to much. so my question i guess would be is there a freeware app that lets me do the same thing?
you could do it free just with terminal serices!!!

I need a new screen for my DELL X5, I would like to buy one(or the unit)for around 100, i really need this, pls PM ME
Ok I think I see your problem. Perhaps your router firewall is keeping you from accessing remotely. ALso make sure that your pocket pc is one of the allowed remote users. Also just to let you know, I haven't been able to run any media files at all. I wish I could play 3d games remotely that way.. :(
