Active sync driving me nuts!!!

Active sync is really pissing me off

1. Does active sync always connect to the internet as soon as you connect your usb cable to the axim? All I want to do is exchange files between my pc and axim, why does active sync keep connecting to the internet.

2. Whenever I try to delete a partnership and when I reconnect I automatically get given the user name pocket_pcc- How do I rename this silly name?

3. How do I uninstall activesync? :realmad: :realmad:

#1 - From Chris De Herrera's Windows CE Website
Quote:
14. Your PC attempts to connect to the internet whenever you synchronize. This is caused by ActiveSync attempting to start internet passthrough. You can disable this by launching ActiveSync, clicking on File - Connection Settings. Uncheck the option "Allow Network and RAS..." Also if you have an Inbox POP3 or IMAP4 account on your Pocket PC 2002, select the ActiveSync profile. This will prevent your Pocket PC from using the PC for internet pass through to access e-mail.
#2 - On your PPC, Start, Settings, Syste (tab), About, Device ID (tab) - change the Device name. On the next sync, you'll have to establish a new partnership since your Axim will not be recognized with a different name.
#3 - The same as any program on your PC - Control panel, Add or Remove Programs. Select Microsoft ActiveSync from the list.

Active sync still makes me mad!!

Active sync is still really pissing me off

I disabled the ethernet RAS check box in the active sync file menu connections option, yet it still continues to connect.

Ahhhhhhh

Question What's the big deal?

Well, my question to you would be, why does it make you so mad? When it performs the pass-through connect, it is in the background anyway. If an application keeps popping up it's probably because you have it running in the background. But, by itself, ActiveSync performs the connection quietly in the background.

So I guess I don't understand where the frustration comes from.

AtiveSync does not connect to the internet unless you have AvantGo installed (this is you have not installed anything else). If you have ZoneAlarm or another type of firewall program on your computer. It will pop up saying ActiveSync is trying to access the internet, when what’s its really trying to do is communicate with your Outlook. Also, if you have set MSN on you PDA to connect when an internet connection is active or have set up an e-mail account to check e-mail every 10 minutes or so, that might also be trying to get online when you plug it into Active sync.

I'm also guessing your frustration is your on dial up and every time you plug in your pda, it tries to dial. If none of those suggestion work, try uninstalling ActiveSync all together, reinstall it and also back up your PDA and do a Hard reset. Then without putting anything back onto your PDA, just sync with your computer and see if it still tries to connect. Gotta be patient with computers, there is usually an explanation... sometimes :P

Those are good points Shirow. Sorry I didn't mean to sound rude before. I have a cable modem so I take some of this stuff for granted. :)

But with the Activesync pass-thru connection, I don't think that would initiate a dialup, would it? It just creates a 'LAN connection' with your PC - not getting an actual IP like it would if you used the WiFi ?

Did you also see the mention of the email account? If you have one set to download directly to your Axim, it will also initiate the dialup when you sync.
