Change Language of ROM: how it works

and i did before change the rom language with the magic buttons bud now i forget withs buttons i need can some one help me please

You need the rom of the languaje to use:

Non-combo models: P16A_ALL_N_10070400EN.IMG (english)
Combo models: P16A_ALL_C_10070400EN.IMG (english)

If you download the rom from Dell page you can change the .Exe extension for an .Zip extension and extract only the file you need.
Then copy this rom into an SD card (in FAT16 format only) and insert in the axim. Put your x30 in the craddle or plug directly with the power supply (unplug usb cable).
Then you need to press and hold this buttons:
Reset Button + Power Button + Jog Dial (is under the earphones plug) + Contacts Button
Then release only the Power Button and the Reset Button, if is ok the Power Button are blinking and then you can see the boot screen, release the other buttons and DON´T TOUCH THE SCREEN PLEASE Automatically the axim load the new rom from the SD card and erase the old rom and write the new. When this process finish the axim reboot and initialize and you can configure.

Hello All,
I think Im lost with this procedure.

I've done the magic buttons procedure to start the upgrade from the SD card suggested by our friend Argentina and it works all went well, it started to upgrade when suddenly at the end of it, when the device was suppost to reboot, it didn't. My Axim doesn't start anymore, I can't even turn it on!!!
I think that is something related to the Combo or Non-Combo models, I may have installed the wrong version of the image..

Does anyone know how to proceed in this case?

Sorry to bring up an old topic but....

I am in Finland right now with my axim x30 and I want to sell it to one of my friends here and I was just wondering if I could change the axim into the Finnish Language. I saw that you can do it in German, anyone know if its possible to change it to Finnish aka suomi?

Ummmmm.... I'm still lost on this changing the language of the OS.....

what roms is everyone talking about? is it the ''dell system update''?
I see you can select whichever language you want to download them in but they all still say there in english...... besides the japanese one.

there is a download section for 'Finnish' and that is what i want to download on my USA english axim x30.

I figure i have the non combo version cause i only got wifi and no bluetooth.....

please somebody help me, i want to change this language to finnish.

I have a X3 in german and i want to turn the pda in a english one.
Anyoane with a X3 succeded in that change of languages?
Any info, link, etc, is very much apreciated..


edit: SUCCES! thanks to all the posts here, too :)

1. Download Axim X3 English (A01) setup, link from here --> http://www.slipstreamsolutions.co.uk...dates.htm#Dell
2. run the setup and make a backup ROM of youre x3, save someplace handy. I have now a file named A01-10240300GE.RIS
3. Run setup again, try to upgrade, get a error message - wrong language, etc but in that DELL folder, you have now a file named, in my case, P16R_A04080402EN.IMG
4. Open with a hex editor A01-10240300GE.RIS and copy all lines from 00 to 07
5. Open with a hex editor P16R_A04080402EN.IMG, select all lines from 00 to 07 and paste there the 7 lines from the first file, save with any name WITH .ris EXTENTION!
6. Run setup again, chose backup/restore and point to the modified .ris file. Now you have the same thing in that window, up and down side.
Do like a normal backup, DO NOT TOUCH THE PDA, THE PROCESS CAN TAKE UP TO 12 MINUTES!
The PDA restart himself, voila, you have axim x3 with a new language.

Hi,

I have an Axim X50v in spanish, updated to WinMobile 2005. The update doesn´t improve anything and just adds a lot of bugs. Would like to downgrade to 2003 again and DELL offers it like an "upgrade", but only in english.

Could this method work if I only have that??? (the english down grade)

I also read I can return my Axim to what it was before with the BackUp file it left while performing the upgrade. Where can I find that?? what extension is that file?

My problem is I cannot install activesync 4 in my PC for some windows error, I could install Windows again and then install ActiveSync 4, but I would have to recover the backup file and I don´t know where it is or what it is called.
