Disable On-Screen Keyboard?
Is there any way to disable the on-screen keyboard from popping up when you tap a text box. its pretty annoying having it pop up when yuo have a keyboard. it would be nice to be able to disable it without any outside software. thanks.

Yes, I would like to be able to do this, too, but I also need to know how to get it to come back incase i don't have my keyboard with me.

Download ZeNoKeyboard. It is freeware and its only function is to prevent the keyboard from popping up onscreen. You select from the available input methods.

Can you just select Transcriber as the default input so the keyboard does not pop-up?

It would only swap transcriber for keyboard. So instead of having the keyboard pop up you'd have the transcriber pop up. BRobinson's suggestion for ZeNoKeyboard seems to be the best fix.

Selecting Transcriber as the default will usually result in a forced hard reset. There is one 'tweak' app which the author reports as doing this safely, but I've lost track of which program that was. A simple registry hack to set it as default will leave the device useless after a soft reset.
ZeNoKeyboard is here.

Tweaks2k allows you to swap the default input method (link in MyPDA).
Also before I owned t2k I performed the registry hack and didn't suffer a hard reset.

Perhaps I ought to have worded that differently; some methods of default input method registry hacks will force a hard reset. I've not tried to set Transcriber as the default for a few years, not since one of my old Casios. But I do know that using Tillanosoft's excellent Pocket Tweak for this has caused hard resets for users a lot more recently, and that others have reported hard resets being required after using other tweak software or directly editing the registry for this particular SIP.
I've been using Letter Recogniser as the default since before it was called Letter Recogniser without a problem (used to be Character Recogniser under PPC2000), thanks to the Tillanosoft applet. Resco Keyboard Pro may also be selected safely, either with a tweak app or internally using Resco's option for same. This is tricky territory, and it seemed best to advise for use of ZeNoKeyboard (selected manually) rather than Transcriber (set as the default) for this thread.

I dunno. Haven't tried. Tonight after my nightly backup I'll give it a shot... and if it causes a nasty result I'll post back here later. If it's fine, my silence will indicate either that my X5/WM2003 has exploded and killed me or that everything went fine and it worked. I use the simple input selector tool which is one of the tabs in Tillanosoft's Pocket Tweak. Renaming input methods or choosing the default is easy enough there, though it's not without risk, depending on the OS, the SIP type, how Tillanosoft coded the changes in the registry, and your own luck. Other tweak apps seem also to offer such a choice, as someone mentioned Tweaks2K2 before.

Okay, I'll play nice. Did a full Sprite backup to SD, copied that to a CF for extra insurance, then used Pocket Tweak to set ZeNoKeyboard (I've had it renamed to 'nothing' for a couple of years on various devices, and call others differently as well) as the default. Worked fine through a soft reset.
Of course, if you use an advanced alpha-numeric password, which I don't, you'd be toast. Cah't get at the SIP switcher in passworded boot mode, can you? I just use plain vanilla 4-number keys, changing once in a while. Simpler that way.
