Worried Problems with File Sharing

Greetings!

I am a proud owner of a Dell Axim X30(mid) and I am happy with its performance. My previous PDA was an iPAQ 3850, and this one boost the ipaq away :D ehehe

I have been installing my favorite software and configuring everything, I have internet conection throught WIFI, however I cant access my network file shares :( I have two computer conected in this network, they both have shares, they both have windows XP with 2service pack, and they both can see each files that are shared. However, on the x30, both using file explorer, or Resco File Explorer, I cant see any of the shares. :(

I can ping both computers, and I believe if things work out on both computers, it cant be problem with firewall or router... I am getting out of soluctions, can you guys help me out? Could it be because I dont have guest logins on these computers?

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Sergio

Hi again!

I have access to file shares on pocketpc file explorer... the problem was that I was trying to access using the IP of the machines, but Ican only access them by its name...
However, with resco file explorer, still have no success... Any ideas on that?

Thanks!

I personally have never had success networking or file sharing with Resco. There are two excellent freeware file explorers called Total Commander and GSFinder, both of which I use, that I can network and file share with. There are links to both of them in the View MyPDA link to the left under my avitar, or the link in my signature. They are in the File Management Software category. I like them both very much, and I think you will also.

I believe once you get your share set up initially, it doesn't matter what file explorer you use. I can get to my shares using any of the 4 file explorers that I have on my Axim. It's just getting it to prompt you for the share username and password, if this applies. Is your network card set to use Network as opposed to Internet? This is a common cause of file sharing issues . . .

Thanks for responses!

Yes, I have my conection set for Work, not internet, and I can access my shares using internal file explorer (it asked for username and password), but only after I tried to access using the computer names, and not their IPs...

Resco, cant seem to see any share, but with my old iPAQ I had no problems...

I guess I ll try those programs you spoke, since with internal file explorer I cant run files on the share folders...

Thanks!

Do you have your WiFi Power Management disabled? I found that connecting to my file shares was painfully slow when I had it enabled. Once I disabled it, I was able to connect in a snap. Just a thought . . .

Thanks for the GSFinder tip!! It's a great little app, looking forward to testing it's networking capabilities. Now I'm up to 5 file explorers . . .

Very strange that Resco doesn't work.

(From Resco's FAQ website section):

"
8. Network drives mapping
Q. I can see no "Computers Near Me" in the Network Drive Mapping window.
A: Please check the IP subnets in the Settings dialog. The desktop PC and the PDA must use the same subnet and this subnet must be listed in the settings. Use the Autodetect feature which enumerates all PDA's network adapters and collects all active subnets for scanning.

If your network structure is a complicated one and the auto-detect feature does not work, please turn it off and manually specify the subnets which have to be scanned.
"

What version do you have?

Maybe a re-install?

(It can't be any simpler, with its auto-detect network search)

make sure the _ in the device name for your axim is taken out as it can cause some problems similar to yours.
