About ready to instal A05, Need Help
I have read a few posts where some people have had catastophic problems when they updated their X30H to A05.
I am tech/PDA newbe and I would like to know what I should do before I install the A05 update. I only have 3 new programs installed: Pocket Informant, E-Wallet, & Sprite backup. Plus I have transferred all my contacts and tasks data.
I have created a backup using Sprite.
Is there anything else I can do other than hold my breath? Please be as detailed as possible
Any help would be very much appreciated.
What really makes me mad is that Dell released A05 in late Oct04, I ordered my X30H in late Nov04, and it came with A03 installed.

What I did was use ActiveSynch to Backup my Axim. Then I ran the installer. I made a backup of the current ROM, then installed the new one. Afterwards it was like a hard reset, so I went through the screen calibration. Then I used Activesynch to restore my system.
I've seen a couple of posts that don't recommend backing up with Activesynch, and restoring across different ROMs. So far mine hasn't had a problem. If you were really worried, just re-install your software instead of doing a backup.
It does recommend you do not shut off the power or use your computer while flashing the ROM. If I were you I'd go right ahead at this point. Just be ready for it to take about 15 minutes.

I wouldn't restore a A03 backup into a A05 rom. Tons of people have had problems including me. WMP doesn't like to work right and such.

Thanks for your response.
If some people have recommended not to do the update, it must not be that important. Do you know exactly what additional features the update installs? Depending on what they are, it might not be worth taking the chance.
Thanks

So what you are saying is that it is much more safe not to do a backup, install A05, then reinstall the software?

What i am saying is yes do the backup of the ROM but not of your data in your x30 other then your PIM info. Install A05 and just restore your PIM and then reinstall all your programs from scratch. If you restore the programs from a backup that was made in A03 ROM then it will cause problems.

After reading this I decided to look at the Windows Media Player. It's not loading avi files. So you think a hard reset, and re-installing the apps will cure this? I don't think I'd need to re-install the ROM. And between doing this, do you think Synching with the PC first, will save my contacts?

^^^ ya a hard start and reinstalling all the programs will fix this. No need to reinstall ROM.
