Activesync won't work copy outlook contacts to Axim?

I am now unable to connect to Activesync by cradle, I think because the pins are bent, but I can charge the battery. After many attempts, I have been unable to connect to activesync by infrared or by Wifi. Have no idea why. However, the infrared connection beetween my PC & Axim 3i is working and I can copy files to Axim from PC by the infrared link. I have been able to copy my Outlook 2002 .pst file containing my contacts to the Axim but cannot open it because it is not linked to an application. Any idea how I can link this outlook.pst file to Pocket Outlook/contacts folder so that it will open? If I just click on the file it asks me for the path to the application to open it, but I have been unable to figure it out.

ANy help greatly appreciated.

The PPC doesn't use PST. You need to get AS working.

I'd delete the partnership and start again via IrDA.

If I delete the partnership and the cradle doesn't detect the Axim because of the bent pins, will the irda connection still work? I thought that a partnership had to be set up first via the cradle before using irda or wifi to sync. I have thought about uninstalling an reinstalling AS, but I am nervous about that because if the pins really are bent and AS doesn't detect the device then I will be up the creek. Is there any other programme apart from AS that can convert outlook 2002 files to pocket outlook readable files?

You cannot create the partnership over wifi, but you can over IrDA or BT.

Ouf. Thanks for the help. Just in case this can help anyone else, I finally uninstalled and reinstalled activesync, hard reset,connected via irda and signed on as a guest. I was then able to restore my full backup file and got all my programmes, setup and data back. Up to that point, so far so good.

However, I then hit complications when I tried to connect again to resynchronize with outlook 2002 on my PC, I was asked to create a partnership again, in spiteof the fact that when I restored the device my partnership, called Axim 2, was reinstalled. I created a new partnership, Axim 3, which tried to synch, but froze midway with the result that my contacts got deleted. I reinstalled the contacts and synched again as Axim 3 and got a load of duplicate addresses, which I then deleted. I then resynched and asked that all items be replaced on my PC. Result was that all items were replaced on my device and I lost about 100 addresses out of a total of 550...???!!! I am still figuring that out, but at least I have a backup of my contacts which I can restore again. Hopefully I will have this totally worked out soon, but in the meantime I have at least made a full backupfile on the device which I can get back after a hard reset without having to use activesync. However, you may see me posting again, if I have problems...

It does it automatically when you connect (if AS is set-up properly at least).

To create a new partnership - open AS when your PPC is NOT in the cradle - go to File>Delete Partnership and delete the partnership.

Next time you connect it will go through the Create Partnership wizard.
