Synchronizing with Bluetooth!

Hi Guys ,

I am new to this site and have only had my Axim X30 - 624 for a few days. I have been trying to get the Axim to synch through Bluetooth with zero success and I am getting very discouraged. I have paired the unit on my IBM laptop. I can transfer files through the bluetooth. Under BT Manager, I have set up the network connection, internet connection through my laptop, file transfers, etc. However, when I try to set up the ActiveSync, I get an error stating "Service discovery was unsuccessful - The requested service is not running on this device. Please make sure the service is enabled on the device or select another one to continue."

Can someone help me out please. How do I enable the activesynch for Bluetooth? Do I need 3rd party software/driver's. What gets me is that I can do just about everything else through BT except Synch :exc: . Am I missing something here? I even went step-by-step through Ted's bluetooth guide and got held up in the same spot. Please can someone help me? Thanks,

Regards,

Dion

I use bluetooth so sync my x30 and to surf the web. The details to set up an active sync should be described in your PDAs bluetooth manager, under new connections, then select Active sync. It took me several trys to get it working. So try and be patient. You shouldn't need 3rd part software, because the supplied software with your Axim and windows should be fine. Make sure to have allthe windows up dates though. (like SP2)

the key is: you have to find out bt com port, and make sure no other apps are using it
then go to Connection Settings, check Allow serial port, put the bt com port number
after that, go to Bluetooth Manager, connect Activesync with (host)

I was reading through the posts about the new ActiveSync 3.8, and apparently bluetooth syncing works better now.

Download it and give it a try.

:) OK, I finally got it working. This was a weird one so hopefully it will help someone else. My computer has always had a Bluetooth com port set up on COM8. When I synchronized intially, that com number must have transferred to my Axim b/c the com port for the serial connection on the Dell was set to 8 as well. However they would talk to each other. After much fooling around with it for about 3 days, here was my solution - I deleted the original bluetooth com port (COM8) on my computer. Then I went into the bluetooth wizard and selected that I wanted to find a specific bluetooth device and configure. I selected my DEll and then selected "Activesych". Suddenly it created another Bluetooth Com Port (COM8) again, but this one worked. I synched the unit through the wired so the info would pass to my Dell. THen I went through the normall Active Synch setup through "Bluetooth Manager" on the Dell. And finally I can Synch through Bluetooth.

So my advice to those that may be having the same problem, unistall your current bluetooth com port, use the bluetooth wizard and allow the wizard to create the proper bluetooth com port for you.

Thanks guys for your replys

Regards,

Dion
