Auto download email via bluetooth

Hi
I have searched through all PPC forums (Brighthand, HowardForums, AximSite, Google ...) for my question, but have not found a definite answer.

I would like to have my x30 automatically check email (using Pocket Outlook) by dialling up the connection using a bluetooth phone with it turned off. The phone is paired, and I am able to manually check email / surf without any problem. However I set the 'Check email every x min' to a low number like 2 minutes, and then send myself an email to the account being checked. With the Axim turned off, I do not see the emails having been retrieved.

Now, this feature works fine with Wi-Fi being turned on. I can choose between different connection settings in the PocketOutlook Account profile like 'The Internet', 'Work', and a cryptic profile that I assume is the Bluetooth connection .. something like '{hsjkd8798s7sajkdh89 ....}'.

When attempting auto bluetooth retrieval, should the WiFi setting be turned off ?

Do I need an application to turn on the Axim every 15 minutes/ or so to connect via bluetooth with my phone (does such an application exist ?) ???

Maybe this is supposed to be an inherent capability in Windows Mobile 2003 ... but it is not working.

Any thoughts, help, guidance on this matter are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

first, MAKE SURE it automatically connect to your bt phone (tap connect icon, if it shows your bt phone connection, leave it alone)
then go to email, accounts
choose the account you want to setup, keep tapping next till you see the screen shows "options", then tap it
check "connect to internet automatically", then choose how often

that's it
but personally I don't recommend it, because it kills battery

hi
thanks for the response. i have that option configured, and as far as Wi-Fi goes, the pda will download email, but not with bluetooth ????

Does anyone currently have the above scenario working ?

Just think how long the battery would last if we could just leave our Axims OFF while we're using them!!

Hope I wasnt misleading, by saying when the Axim is off and emails are retrieved, ... but this is essentially what happens when the axim is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi, but it does not seem to happen when the connection is to be made via bluetooth.

I'm sure there must be many 2 device people who use the Axim/cellphone combination to automatically download their emails without having to press a button on the Axim ... ???

the first question
do you connect to internet through cellphone?
if so, do this
go to email client-accounts...
pick an account you want to auto connect
on email setup, keep tapping next till you see a screen "server information", tap options
on the first screen, check "connect and check for message for every ?? minutes"
connection: the internet
then keep tapping next till finish

note: make sure you have enough power on both phone and pda

Thanks .. that is exactly what I do.
I think the problem is that I have a lot of messages in my POP account, and POcket Outlook needs to scan all of them (over 150) everytime mail is checked. My experience on the Palm email clients is different, they are able to download new mail in a matter of secinds using GPRS. I thought Pocket Outlook would behave in the same way, and evry hour I could download my email via bluetooth. Is there a work-around for Pocket Outlook not checking the hundereds of email on the server and to just download any new ones and be done with the conection. Of course I know I can choose not to save my email on the server and to download them all ... but I need to have online versions.

just discovered that a Bluetooth connection will not automatically be created if the Axim is off when the email retrieval time is reached. however this is not the case if a connection is to be made with Wi-Fi.
With my last connection to the internet via Wi-Fi, i can turn off the Axim and leave it there. When I come back after some time, my new emails have already been downloaded.

If this is correct then the implementation is flawed ... anybody know if the type of connection that is chosen for email retrieval is important, ie. Work, Internet, or Bluetooth ... ?

hate to revive an old thread, but this thread says exactly what I want to do. I want my axim to wake, dial bluetooth, get emails and then shutoff. Did anyone ever find a work around? I can only get it to work with wifi but bluetooth radio power is shutoff when you press the power button I think?

If the basic messaging won't work are there other programs out there to buy? I tried flexmail, it doesn't work either :(

Any help is appreciated. Check out the the thread i made in the ppc 2003 forum:
