Problems with firewalls

Six months ago using this wonderful, magnificent help forum site I was able to get the info I needed to connect wirelessly to my PC, the Internet and send and receive e-mail. THANKS! Now a new problem. I updated my virus software. The default setting activated the firewall component of the software PC-Cillen 2004 w/updates). After I upgraded, I could access the 'net, e-mail, etc, but was unable to sync wirelessly. At the site today I found that my firewall software was the problem. Once I turned the firewall off, I was able to sync wirelessly.
My question: is there any way to use my software firewall and still connect wirelessly?
I’m using a Linksys BEFSR41 router and a Linksys WAP54G access point. Do these devices provide enough protection, or do I need to enable the software firewall?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Bob

You need to have a working software firewall enabled, for sure.
Here are general guidelines to deal with the situation(From the aximsite wifi guide by Ikehiker):
"Having a firewall running on your partner PC can interfere with a wireless partnership connection. The procedures will differ for the various firewall programs but you can generally allow ActiveSync or WCESCOMM.exe unrestricted access. Alternatively, giving your PPC's IP unrestricted access will work with some firewall programs."
I've never used PC-cillin, so I can't get specific on the instructions. Hope this helps. :)
