Constant errors with mugen 2000mah battery, it's never worked with my X30

It's late so I will just copy an email I just fired off here that describes the problem. Any input on the technical issue is greatly appreciated. Email from them to me follwed by my update and reply below: (i'm ryan, to save confusion)

Ryan,

We tested the battery that you returned to us using our Dell Axim X3i and found no problem with the battery. We tried using WiFi with internet access and full screen brightness with no difficulty. We also drained the battery from 100% down to 7% (took 6-1/2 hours) at which point we shut it off and recharged it.

We cycled the battery 5 times using different software programs to see if we could repeat your problem. Our determinitaion was that the battery is not the source of your problem. We suggest that you check the software to see if there is not a conflict between a software program and the larger capacity battery.

Now that our review is complete, it has been recharged and it will be returned to you by regular mail.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Mark Fabian

Mark,

I received the battery in the mail today. I brough it inside and stuck
it in the charger. After a few hours I put it in my X30 and played
some Tiger Woods golf. Then I played part of Kill Bill 2. I started it
playing MP3s and left it. After a few hours I came back and it was
playing fine and then it abruptly stopped. I picked it up from the
desk where it had been sitting in its case unperturbed. This is when
I saw the same error message that I originally sent it back for. The
screen goes blank except for this message: "A memory error has been
detected. Press [contacts button] to correct the error. If the system
does not boot, press [Power]+[Reset} to clear all data in the memory
and reboot the system." AFter restarting the axim this message
invariably appears: "Battery power lost! The system has entered sleep
mode. Data loss might have occurred."

I have been using my Axim for over a month with the original battery
since I purchased it in December, and have had zero problems with it.
I could never get through one cycle with the mugen battery before
getting this error. Also, once it happens, it will happen only a few
seconds after restarting, repeating over and over. I have pictures of
both messages if you would like to see them.

I can not afford to have interruptions in the operation of my axim
because I use it to record important lectures 5 days a week. If it
were to stop in the middle I would be screwed. I have no confidence in
this battery.

I am requesting a refund. Please get back with me.

Thank you,
Ryan.

Back to this post. I would just like an extended battery I can trust to be reliable. Again, any input is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

It is EXTREMELY unlikely that the battery has anything to do with the problems you are having. If you were having poor battery life, or longer than normal charge times, or power cut-outs, then you could probably point your finger at the battery. But given the nature of the problem and the architecture of your PDA, I don't see any way that a battry could cause memory errors.

What you need to do is hard-reset your Axim, load the latest ROM, then use it for a week or so without installing any software. If the problems return, you might have to exchange your Axim.

It isn't really a memory error. This is what happens when the system abruptly loses power. That is why it isn't necessary to wipe the memory clean by pressing the power and reset buttons simultaneously. All it needs is a soft reset. And when it comes back on, it gives the battery power lost message. Where did the battery power go? 39% is the lowest it's gone before displaying the problem. It was happening around 78% before.

I would also like to point out again that I have been using the PDA for over a month with the original battery and have had no hint of a single problem. Put this battery in and the lights go out. What would that lead you to believe?

Also, to further explain my point about this not being an actual memory error, here is an explanatory thread. This member accidentally left his axim on and the battery ran all the way down, causing the axim to abruptly lose power when the battery finally did die. When he powered the axim back on he got the same "memory" error I receive, even though all he really did was lose battery power. He also got the same battery power lost message when it was restarted.

Also, I took the extended battery out and left it untoched after the error last night. I put it back in today and it reads 59% power, even though when it died it showed 39%. Is that even normal? Seems like it is just all over the place to me.

It is the battery cutting out that is initiating the problem in the first place.
