What's the best music player/format

With all of the music formats out there (mp3, mp4, m4a, iTunes, aac, ogg, wav, etc), I'm wondering which format gives the highest quality in the smallest file. Currently, I'm using GSPlayer to play a bunch of .ogg files, but maybe there's something out there that gives a better quality in the same size file. If so, I want to convert to that format. Who can say something about this?

Thanks,
Phillip

I use OGG and love it! It's smaller than MP3, many players play it, and it has a bunch of nifty features. AAC is a waste of time, as none of the free music players will play them.

I think you'll find that other people in this board agree.

McIntosh Turntables produce great sound with vinyl records. 45 is the smallest commercially avaiable format. I tried going smaller with those cereal box discs but the sound was grainy.

I use GSPlayer also and it sounds better than any other free audio player there is. It's great, it can play just about anything.

I disagree that AAC files are a waste of time or that none of the free players play them. I like the iTunes interface and store my CD collection on my PC in this format. I discovered BetaPlayer which lets me play AAC/MP4 etc on my Axim and purchased ppcTunes from Handango for $9.95 (about £6.50ish) which lets me sync an iTunes playlist on connection.

Syncronisation via the Dell USB cradle to my SD card was very slow but I purchased a USB Sync/Charge cable for £6.50 (pdamods.com) and that solved the speed issue.

BetaPlayer doesn't have the nicest interface (Media Player 10 with iPod skin looks nicer), but it is free and plays all the popular formats.

I didn't reazlie BetaPlayer played AAC. I thought only $$$ players did.

AAC is fine if you use Itunes, but you can't use it outside of Itunes. OGG on the other hand can be played in WMP, Winamp, and even itunes itself. It's a much more versatile medium.

Igreasby, will ppcTunes also sync associated AAC files with a playlist? If not, how do you play your playlist with BetaPlayer?
