I had my original Axim X30 High for 6 months. Last month I started using the sync cable at work and the cradle at home.
After a month of usage, I had the bent pins. Dell sent a replacement last week. The replacement did not have the redesigned device connector at the bottom. Today I got home and I have bent pins again!!
Is there a known issue with using the sync cable connector? Its just wierd that in the first month of using it, I now have bent the pins on two Axims.
Has anyone had multiple replacements from Dell? I hope they don't give me a hard time for a faulty design.
Yes there is an issue, BIG TIME, they should replace it, mine bent on a second axim i recieved, the first was sent back for a broken screen, i only sync to one computer and will ahve this computer for the rest of my life prob. So i will probably purchase a new PDA before a new computer. I sync wirelessly so i didnt worry about the hassle.

I didn't bent pins yet but I have read many members having this problem. Replacemetn should be sent if you call Dell.

Sorry to hear that bAximer! Since I read quite a few connector stories I'm a bit affraid it will happen on mine as well since I use the cable to charge my X30 when on the road.

Regarding bent pins - it this in the unit or the cable/cradle? I can not longer sync to my unit therefore maybe I should suspect the same. I can charge without any problems.

Thanks,

Supposedly, the redesign connector is like a circuit board, no pins

The problem with the old connector is that the VERY thin plastic piece on which the pins reside would VERY easily break off into the connector, then the pins are just sitting there waiting for pressure to be applied when the plug was attached. End result, bent pins

Remember just one thing....
I have no idea what I am talking about.
Ever.
Hi, could somebody kindly point us to a photo of what a "revised" connector looks like. If possible I'm also interested in what a photo of bent Axim pins look like too. Sounds really scary & I'm sure it'll benefit us all who have no personal experience of the issue & want to keep it that way
I ordered a new axim x30 high and it should arrive soon. Does this mean it will be supplied with a new connector and I won't have to worry about bent pins?
Everyone should worry about breaking the connector, no matter which style it is. There are two kinds.
The first one just has pins, if you look straight into it you see 24 little pins in there.
The newer design has 24 contacts on a thin plastic wafer. If you look straight into it, you see a plastic piece that has 24 contacts on one side.
The first design obviously had no protection from bent pins. The second is not much better because if you bump a sync cable up or down when it's plugged into the connector, you risk breaking that plastic wafer off at it's base.
I would imagine the newer design works more reliably with a cradle, but since I don't have one I wouldn't know.
