Encoding a divx video

I know everyone here has talked about converting DVD to divx, but how do I convert a divx file into a smaller divx file, I use DivX doctor and the video and audio are not in sync by a few seconds!!! :( pls help

VirtualDub is a good utility you could use.

I use a freeware program called dvdx, you can rip and encode a dvd directly using it, all you need is a codec of your choice, ie xvid or divx, you can then set the size, quality and sound quality up.
