extracting wav from pwi notes

hi peeps,

I do record loads of notes and although it should be possible I cannot extract the wav - well I suppose its a wav since we are on an MS OS - from the pwi file.

When I sync my files with my laptop, it bloody opens in Word and then?

It is possile I hope, so how can we do it please?

Thanks a million,
Phreak

There is a way to do this, but I don't remember how. I read about it, I think, on pocketpcthoughts.com.

If you make a lot of voice notes, I'd suggest using the freeware NoteM, which records directly to .wav or .mp3.

I know that you can export notes to OneNote, but I don't know if that still saves your audio recordings or not. Do you have OneNote?

there is a trial version of OneNote, will try that and see whether I can extarct the wav from these pwi files but NoteM looks cool and I will probably use that in the sooner rather than later!

thanks all!

what a waste of space this MS OneNote, it cannot open pwi files either! I am going to uninstall it right now!

I had this problem once a long time ago. I never solved it, but I did learn to never use Notes for sound recording. School of Hard Knocks...

I am pretty happy with PPC overall, but there are still a few things like this that make you wonder what the HECK they are thinking over there in Redmond.

I guess I peaked my own curiosity. See the third post in the thread below. It tells you how to get the recording from the .pwi and cut, paste, copy, bend over backwards, rub your tummy and pat your head, etc. to get it into Windows Sound Recorder so you can save it as a .wav.

Phreak -- I'd think this process would help you with existing notes that you had to translate. For future use, it looks like NoteM is the way to go.
