Hmm X30 Limit on SD card size??????

Hi Everybody
Rumor has it that Dell put a limit on the size of a SD the X30 will take, I think its 1 GB. As I use my X30 more and more I'm finding that the 1 gb is slowly dwindling away and filling up with "must have apps” . Right now a 2GB SD card is looking really good  . It sucks if Dell put such a limit on the X30 capabilities :realmad: . I've heard the the X50v dosen't have such a limit . Can anyone verifiy this???

Regards,

Billy

I think it is a physical limit of the card not the unit. I can't prove this but CF has some internal technology that the SD do not have which create this limitation. Look at how long the CF have been offered at over 1Gb and SD is still behind.

Hey Frenchy,
I believe you can buy a 2Gb SD card now. I found a link for a 2 Gb card here.

http://overture-cnet.com.com/4014-32...8-5_9-31144282

This is the same kind of SD card we use in our Axims isn't it?

Thanks,

Bil

The only limitation for the flash cards is the type file system. 4gb+ cards require the card to be fomatted with FAT32 to use all the space. SD cards are farther behind in storage size because of their sheer mass - smaller flash memory costs more.

We don't see a reason why you wouldn't be able to, but the only way to know for sure is to try it.

Ok I checked this issue out a little more and I believe this is just a rumor. However as you said justinnike the only way to know for sure is to talk to someone who's actually tried one.

I'm pretty sure the new 2 GB SDs would work fine. I believe it is dependent on the media and not the actual unit. Although, it is a Windows-based Operating System.......

There is a limit on the size of the card because of the filesystem
there is also a size limit that is because of the arctecture of sd technology

Dell has stated that the X30 can only use the 1GB. I'm waiting for the 2 GB to come out and will want to try it.

Probably hasn't been any testing of the 2gb card, so Dell won't tell you it works and risk being wrong.
