Man I'm pumped-up to listen to my Brewers. Ivan X, you are the man. Now I just have to wait for my Axim to get here. Can it be Christmas in July? YEE HAW
I'd be interested in the tip on the Axim for $270!
With MTR, all you do is type in the name of the team (or its abbreviation) that you want to listen to. You don't need to go to the GameDay Audio or MLB.TV page. It just finds the current live game or most recent live game and plays it. You can also specify a past date for an archive game.
Thanks Ivan X
I really need to listen to the home feeds of the Milwaukee Brewers. I need to listen to Bob Uecker (WTMJ). Can I still do that with transistor radio?
Also, I just ordered my Axim at 6:45 PM mountain time on July 26.
Here's the thread. http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=92170
It works, but you'll have to use a second Ebay link that is listed about half-way down the thread for the extra $35 off. It's the best deal I've seen anywhere.
The money I save will easily help my buy your program. Good work Ivan X.
Just a note on using MTR. After installing the program and also installing JAVA you need to load IE and Windows Media prior to loading MTR. Then just type in the team you want (Yankees would be NYY) followed by wv. This stands for "Windows Media" and "video". So then to access Yankee games, just type
nyy wv and hit enter. Have fun!
Stupid question: do you need a MLB.TV subscription to go w/this software?
Yes, you do need the subscription. You can sign up for the full feed (audio and video) or just the audio. Obviously if you sign up for the full feed and you only want to listen to the audio on your Axim you could just blank the screen. You will be subjected to the same black-out rules as you would be on your PC. Don't ask me how those black-out rules are applied, because I don't understand them and neither does any of the MLB.TV people that I have talked to in the past. Some of them will tell you that all the teams in your state are blacked-out while others will tell you it is done by proximity of your zip code to the location of the team you want to watch.
Good luck if you do subscribe. This is my third year (thanks to a son who can now actually give his parents presents that are better than those "refigerator" drawings). I leap-frog my computer image to other tvs in the house for those who don't want to watch on the computer monitor.

Thanks, hamil33. Just to clarify a few things, MLB has three subscription products. GameDay Audio ($15/year) allows you to listen to the home radio feed of any team with no blackout restrictions. It's not simply the a partial feed from the television broadcast, it's a totally different broadcast, at least for most teams.
MLB.TV ($80/year, or $50 after All-Star break) allows you to watch the TV feed, but you don't get your choice which one -- sometimes you'll get one team's announcers, and on the next day you'll get the other team's announcers, and the feed is subject to blackout restrictions.
All Access ($95/year, or $70 after All-Star break) allows you to get both GameDay Audio and MLB.TV, plus various highlight reels and condensed games and things (for now, MTR only supports the full games, however).
Note the prices I mentioned may not be accurate, and they also have monthly and daily rates. Check out their site if you want more info.
As for the blackout restrictions for the TV broadcasts, I think the way it works is that basically they try to figure out where you are based upon your IP address. If they can't, then they do it based on your home zip code. They have a list on their site of what teams are blacked out for which zip codes. Only live games are blacked out; you can watch any archive game. Also, any archived (post-live) TV broadcasts time out after five minutes if it's still the same day of the game, and all Saturday games before 6 PM ET also time out after five minutes.
Hope this helps,
Ivan.

Trust me when I say that the black-out rule is ambigious. I signed up in previously years and could get the Marlin games. Before signing up this year my son and I both verified on MLB.TV that my zip code was not in the Marlin black-out area. We subscribed as did we the past few years. The first time I tried to access a Marlin I game I got the famous "sorry but---" screen. I spend a lot of time on the phone with the MLB folks and was given a number of differing explanations why I was blacked-out. One of the "helpers" finally said I was just "one zip code too close". I asked why I had gotten that feed in previous and was told that I not gotten it before. One of the "helpers" actually tired to convince me that it was done strictly on a "state" basis. They need to get their act together or at least get their "reasons" together.
They have a great product but poor customer service has torpedoed a lot of good products. I have been an ambassador of MLB since it started. However, this kind of service does not deserve an "Ambassadorship".
Ivan is correct when he says that they try to determine it by your IP. The problem there is that your IP may not be in your home zip code. This lack of clarity of the part of MLB will simply drive people to products like SecureNNTP Tunnel.
I installed the IBM J9 client and MTR. I am using a trial version, so my team selection doesn't matter.
Initially, I just entered a team, and after entering my email and pw for MLB.tv, I tapped the link for the feed and I got audio only.
I reran MTR, this time enterring "nyy wv" hoping to get a video feed. When I clicked on the link on the Start Menu, Windows Media Player loaded, and began connecting. Eventually, I got an "Access is denied" message.
I would love to get this working, and to buy MTR if I can get it working.
I tried again, and got the full video feed. I am really impressed by this. I immediately bought the full version of MTR, which allows me to choose which games I want to watch.
I watch MLB.tv on my computer all the time. We'll see how much I use it on my Axim X50, but it's a cool gimmick even if I don't use it too often, and $20 isn't a lot considering I pay $20/month for MLB.tv.
If anyone is having trouble getting this to work, I would be glad to help.
they black us out and games aren't even played in Vegas!
we order mlb to watch Seattle Mariners games in Las Vegas, besides the fact that pro games are not played here at all, they told us that our zip code was too close to the game in Oakland (I believe).....LMAO ya know cause its no problem to just drive on over to Oakland to watch the game!
I'm nuts about baseball, especially the A's. I regularly watch old games, parts of games or hilight reels. You can watch any game after it has been played, regardless of blackout restrictions.
That's ridiculous that Oakland games are blacked out in Las Vegas. I could maybe understand LA games blacked out, but even that is silly. Oh well.
Anyway, Ivan X (MTR programmer) gave me great customer service, so I wanted to plug his product again.
One minor annoyance with WMP 10 - sometimes it gives an error message when loading a feed "Access denied". It always works after a couple of tries though. Once loaded (at least archived games), I haven't had any interruption in the stream.
I am in the process of evaluating the MTR program. I am currenty connected to the internet via a usb cable not wirelessly. At home tonight I'll be trying to connect to this wirelessly. I have installed the Sun Java program rather than the IBM J9. The MTR program seems to startup ok. The question comes when you need to enter the information, the only way I can type the info in is if I open another program like pocket excel or word to open the keyboard and then tap back to MTR so I can type the answers. What appears to be happening is the menu bar (window icon, start, battery indicators, x to close programs, etc...) from the top gets shifted all the way to the bottom, covering up the keyboard icon. Have I not installed something correctly or is this the way that it works?
