MLB.TV baseball games on Axim

Its only a few more days til lthe start of MLB baseball season and I'd like to view the games on my Axim, if possible.

I already subscribe to MLB.TV which allows me to view the games on my PC.

Does anyone know if it will be possible to watch the games on my Axim? When I go to the MLB website via PIE, I do not get the same screen, with video, as I do on my desktop PC.

Has anyone made this work?

I would love to know the answer to this question. It's what is holding me back from purchising an Axim. SSMMRR wants his tv, I just need radio. I love listening to the Brewers and Bob Uecker. I tried to post a thread like this before but didn't get any hits.
SSMMRR, can you at least go to the gameday audio site and listen to the games? Very curious.
I've noticed that MLB has teamed with one of the cell phone providers to provide streaming audio through headsets. Hopefully, this means they will be adding a few web pages for the audio links.
Also, here is MLB's "narrowband" site. Check this out and tell me how it looks.

I think we are out of luck both on watching the games or listening to them on the Axim.

The previous replier, VinnyNY, was right, I think. The functionality of the Axim version of IE, PIE, is just not up to what is currently available on desktops.

I am very disappointed.

As to the MLB narrowband site: I think its an improvement over accessing the braodband MLB site but not much.

I have subscribes to both MLB.TV and radio. I loved both allalst year. I am a displaced NY Yankee fan and its the only way I can hear or see the games since my cable TV compamy here in TX does not deign to provide the YES (NY YAnkee) network!

If you ever figure out how to watch or listen to the games, please o post something here.

But, has anyone tried to access MLB with an alternate browser? That's kind of where I'm heading. I'm pretty sure there are alternate browsers that support flash.
In fact, if I weren't so lazy I'd find the thread. I'm pretty sure I've read something on this. Now, if we could just get this miracle browser to work on MLB.COM.
Maybe Windows Mobile 2005 will have a fix for this.

Good question abou tthe alternate browser. Frankly, I didn't even know there were alternates to PIE. If you find the names of any, do let me know.

When is Win Mobile 2005 coming out?

ssmmrr, I think I may have found a workaround. There is a web browser by ThunderHawk that costs money to use. It's $49 bucks a year, but they have a free 30 day trial. I think you should give the trial a go and report back here to let me know if it works.

I'd seen it before, but didn't want to pay a subscription. It might be our only hope.

Also, check out these interesting threads.

There is some interesting stuff there.

Caddychunk, I will take a shot at the Thunderhawk browser. The review does not specifically reference its ability to watch live video but I will check it out to be sure.

Do you know how to install a .cab file? I have downloaded Thunderhawk to my PC and copied it to my Axim but when I click on it in my Axim, nothing happens. I may need to post about installing .cab files in order to make more progress but I'll keep you informed.

I don't have mlb subscription but there might be a work around I have used for other things. First what does the video play in? If it is WMV then you can proceed. Are you not getting the video option because you are accessing the mobile site? If so use the Reg Tweak to report PIE as IE and you should be able to access the video. If the video is vidoe is imbedded in a window look for a "play in WMP" option or try to cut and paste the link into WPM. I use these tricks to view movie trailers and sports hilights.

Note-Makes notes on what changes you make to reg so you can put it back if it doesn't work. I did this to access hotmail in html but am not able to send email now just view. On the mobile version I can send but only view in text.

Medicwll, thank you. I knew of this option - Baseball on the Go. But its got two drawbacks - its not live action and its an extra charge on top of the $80 I already pay fpr MLB.TV.

Calgarycowboy, thanks for your advice but I don't understand half of what you are suggesting. I'm trying to be a nerd on this stuff but its still far over my head.

What does this mean - how do I do it? 'use the Reg Tweak to report PIE as IE'

The video is imbedded in a window and I see nowhere to look for '"play in WMP" option'.

And then you say to 'cut and paste the link into WPM'. What's that?

Sorry was in a hurry.

What does this mean - how do I do it? 'use the Reg Tweak to report PIE as IE'

There is a Registry Tweak so that Pocket Internet Explorer reports itself as the full version. No extra functions but some web sites direct you to a mobile version if PIE is detected. Search the tutorial on this site to see how to do it.

The video is imbedded in a window and I see nowhere to look for '"play in WMP" option'.

Sometimes this option is there. As far as I know PIE can not play imbedded video.

And then you say to 'cut and paste the link into WPM'. What's that?[/QUOTE]

If the video is in windows media video you and try to find the link on the page to the video. Tap and hold on the video part and add to favorites. If the link ends in something like *.wmv you can copy this link and in window media player go into "menu" then "open url" and paste/type there.

SSMMRR
I still don't own an Axim yet, so i don't know how to install programs on the Axim. There are a ton of threads on the site that will tell you how to do that.
I'm still interested in how ThunderHawk works. Maybe it will be too laggy for audio or visual.
Let's keep up the fight for our baseball on the Axim!
