Backups and Data Loss Due to Dead Battery

I recently left my axim idle for a few days and when I returned I found that it had hard reset, I guess I left something running that drained the battery. I understand why this happens, but it does seem like a pretty silly way to do things, I imagine it confuses most new users.

Anyway Im looking for a solution to prevent this happening again, it seems to me as though there are a few ways to backup data.

1. Take a ROM Backup.
2. Use the Data Backup Program that comes with the axim.
3. Use a thrid party backup program.

But what exactly is backed up by these methods, and what do third party backup programs backup that DataBackup program doesnt?

Lastly is there a program that that monitors the battery level and automatically creates a backup if it gets low, so that if you leave your axim for a few days you can return and restore the backup. If there isnt I may have to create one.

HERE's how I have my Sprite Premium configured.

In my BIS I only have a most basic backup. Just enough to get my Axim back in a useable state, for me. If I were to have to use the OEM Configuration of the Axim......I would have to revert back to Complete Newbie Stage. I have no idea how to navigate in an OEM PPC Configuration.

My "Basic Configuration" contains User Info, SnoopSoft DashBoard (configured) and GigaBar (configured). These are the changes to the OEM Config that I have used on every PPC I've owned. Like I said, without them......I AM Lost! So I know I can always get back to something I can use, but since I rarely remove my SD Card, should I need to, I can always go back one or two days for a Restore.

And I copy my SD Card (via a card reader), to my PC and Laptop once a week.

Never had to use it yet, on my X5 400/A04. But just happy to know it's there if I need it.

Thanks for the reply, Sprite Backup looks like a very useful program.

I just let the battery run down to 30% and its very cool the way it closes all programs to preserve battery and then makes a backup.

Cheers again,
Darren.

This practice has very NEGATIVE effects as per your battery's Life Expectancy!!

You should keep your Axim in the Cradle (or otherwise connected for Charging) as often and for as long as possible.

LiIon Batteries will last longer, overall, if kept topped off as much as possible. :approve:
