Phase out of Support on X30/X50?

Has anyone else heard of this? I was under the impression that the x30 and the x50 were slightly newer models and that there should be support on them for at least a couple of years.

I work for a company and we plan on using these units for our equipment. Although, if they plan to phase out support that will quickly change and we'll have to stick with our HP refurbs.

Also, does anyone know of any known issues with RAW IR connectivity issues on either of these two models? Any info you can help with would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks,
Detection1

I haven't heard of any suggestion that Dell are fading out support for the x30 or x50 series, and if I did hear it I would think it highly unlikely.

Do you know roughly how new these units are?

it is rumored that Dell will stop releasing ROM updates for the x30 this month. though the x30 will still be sold and you will still be able to use your warranty like normal.

Pretty amazing how fast new versions come out and we get 'stuck' with old models!Eight months between X30 and X50, not enough time to get out X40 I suppose!! At this rate, your new will be old by the time the UPS guys delivers your next gadget! Things may be progressing too fast today?

Hmm I thought they stopped a long time ago.
I updated to A05 and have not heard of a new one since.
Did I missing something?
Thanks

your right, A05 is the latest and POSSIBLY the last rom update that the x30 will get.

You've got to be kidding me! If I remember correctly, the X30 series only got one ROM update. That's pretty sh!tty if Dell doesn't release another ROM update to iron out the few glitches in WiFi/BT, etc...

No there were 2 ROM flash updates possibly 3.
Think about it.
First release came with A01, now were are at A05.
I would say they offered a few updates since the x30's initial release.
Now I am not saying I would not welcome additional updates but they have attempted to clean things up a bit since day 1.

i got my information from the Windows Mobile 2005 forum i believe. personally, i'm not worried about more ROM updates becuase i feel as if it has been improved well enough. though i would really like to have the windows mobile 2005 OS. i'm not worried about the windows media player becuase it sucks and i'd rather use GSPlayer.

No one can know if any company has decided to phase anything out unless they release it directly.
That said the only way they will possibly phase out any support or the unit, is if they are getting ready to release a new unit to replace the old.
This way they can dedicate the bulk of their support team for the new launch / bugs.
Also if they do not support the old then you must buy the new.
Only my opinion

Ahh... I thought the first ROM was A02 and the only official ROM update was A05. Can someone clear this up? Thanks.

Well, no matter what, Dell HAS TO HONOR AND SUPPORT any Axim as long as it's still under warranty. So if you just purchased an X30 or 50 with an extended 3 year warranty, for 3 years, Dell has to take care of you long after they stop making both the X30 and X50 series. :D

I have copies of A00, A02, and A05, in a folder on my PC so they must have offered at least 2 updates since I purchased my unit.
Windows 2005 would not be an update it would be a OS upgrade.
Not sure they will offer it or at least for free.
