Skype is a free Voice over IP program. You can Call any other Skype user for Free. I'm pretty sure all other calls are about 2cents per minuite in the americas. I'm not sure if that rate applies everywhere.
You can use it on your X30 by either using headphones and the built in microphone or you can use a bluetooth headset.
what exactly is "Skype" and how can you use it on X30h
Skype is a VoIP (Voice over IP) phone software. It's a way to telephone using only an Internet connection. Every user is known by a login name, and there are even connections to the regular phone networks.
There is a PPC version, just install it, and here you go. Obviously, you'll need to be connected to receive or start a call.

A real life example - I have a friend in Europe and he has Skype on his PC. So he sits at his PC and use my 4150 and we have a conversation (like a phone call) but it's free. 0 cents per minutes. No operator charge.

built in microphone or you can use a bluetooth headset.
A lot of people have had problems getting Skype to work properply with a BT headset on the X30. I have never manged to get it to work with my BT headset...
Skype works great with the X30 but you cannot use a bluetooth headset since it does not work with this device.
You can use (like I do) a wire headset plus the built in x30's microphone.
If you put some money in your account you can call normal landlines even if your call starts from your pda. In this case, you pay only 0,02 USD per minute toward most of the destinations.
I use it to call my parents so I pay but with 10 euro it lasts forever.
The procedure you have to follow is:
go to www.skype.com and register
then download and install on your ppc the software for pocket pc they distribute for free
launch your connection (possibily wifi) and call your friends or, if you added credit, call whoever you desire.
Bye
I use it on my PC all the time. Really like it. Have it on the Axim as well, works fine, but the wireless bulb is constantly flashing, it's a real battery drainer. You can also use Stanaphone . . .
Right, it's not the flashing of the bulb that I'm concerned about, but the idication that the wireless is working overtime, thus eating up battery life. I only use Skype on my Axim if I'm using the 1800 Battery . . .
ah...skype. from the fine folks who are the bane of the riaa, kazaa, brings this fine product we call skype. thankfully, they left out all the wonderful things they included in kazaa, such as adwares and spywares.
i don't use it, because i don't have any friends who uses skype. ok, fine, i don't have ANY friends.
but i did install stanaphone, just so that it seems i am sociable. at starbucks, i get questioned all the time, when are they releasing the phone? i tell them that i am a japanese tourist and that "you yanks will never get cool electronics" and laugh at them as i walk out with my latte mocha.
back on topic.....I would be using skype if they had a local phone number for me. All their area codes are in new york :S
here's a good idea from skoobz:
whenever you are:
a) filling out surveys
b) at /best buy/sears/target/circuit city/homegoods, et al,
c) had a few drinks at the bar and see this monica bellucci
they all will ask for your number. instead of giving out your geeky roomate's number and having telemarkters harass him, just give out the stanaphone number and use it to screen your calls. as far as the letter "c" is concerned, NEVER give out your real number after you have had a couple of drinks, because the monica bellucci probably will look like monica lewenski when you are sober.
that's what i do, hey, it's no cost to you and you can check it whenever and however you want. like a free pager service, since you can have it notify you via email, and if you have a push service like a crackberry.
so what you're saying is that scape is useless unless you can find someone else with the program? I can not call to all friend's cell phones thru my pda?
I believe you can do so if you subscribe to "Skype Out", but I don't believe they can call you. There are fees associated with Skype Out, albeit nominal.
