You can use fxtpbrowser, a free alternative browser. Version 0.1e has this feature. I believe Spb Pocket Plus also has it but it's not freeware and includes other features.
I cannot test this right now but if you hold your Stylus on the picture does an option to copy get listed? If yes then go to another folder and paste the image.

The cached images are in the Windows\Profiles\Guest\Temporary Internet Files\Content IE5\####letters folders. I have no idea why but thats where they are.

I would anyway recommend investing in SPB Pocket Plus. It solves your issue (direct save from context menu) and has also a lot of other very useful features. You can check it out at www.spbsoftwarehouse.com.
yeah the hold down and copy thing doesnt work with axim you either have to get a tool or a small internet tool in order to do so though i havent tried searching for it manually in code
Good to know where those temp files are anyway. I used my ie for about two months and the available memory on my machine shrunk to 9 mb.... After searching for files and not finding anything of great size... the temp files were the problem.
