Is X30's CPU the same as X50's? If so, I don't think it wouldn't be hard to port WM2005 from X50 to X30 or the other way around.
Yes, the CPUs are the same, but it's not as easy as moving it from an x50 to an x30. You would have to somehow make the drivers for the x30 among other things.

We signed a petition last year to get the SE upgrade for the X3(i) family. Tons of people signed it and Dell still denied us.
Don't get me wrong, I signed the petition months ago for the 2005 upgrade for the X30 family but realistically, I don't see Dell giving a damn no matter how many thousands of people might wind up ultimately signing it. They're Hell bent on trying to "induce" us to shell out another $500 to by an X50 with a 2005 upgrade CD. It's all about the $$$. Dell couldn't care less.

Look, you know probably very well how the game is played. The more effectively the consumer can be milked and made to buy the next piece of hardware/software, the better it is for the bottom line. Would anyone reaaly do it differently if a CEO for a large corporation? It is oldfashioned, ineffective and slow to accommodate people who perhaps want to hold on to their old car for whatever reasons. Here is where the free market needs to kick in. Where are the small and quick hardware and software houses that can do something for the Axim X30 that the big guys aren't interested in doing. There is money to be made, isn't there?

The thing is, if the X3i peoples signed it but didn't get it why should we have had any hope of getting the WM5 upgrade? I'm just grateful they provide updates for the X30 from time to time, especially with the Pocket WMP 10 update.
And besides, Dell PDAs are still cheaper than anything out there. If you brought something cheaply, there should be a compromise.
But I still think it was kind of sick to have a "Windows Mobile 5" Option avaliable for the updates section with the X30. It sends a clear message, but still
