Im waiting for dell to make a multimedia PDA like the Palm with HDD what i really want to see is USB compatability then flash or HDD i could plug in my external HDD and transfer all my images /data to that

Imagin a PDA with USB!! light travelling and heavy when pluged in with externat HDD. when will we see that??

The memory onboards getting better really fast and is enough for travelling, i copy everything to SD card as it is but HDD! Please

What you're referring to is a tablet pc, not a pda (pda's are really only meant for office-type uses anyways). MS set down the tablet pc standards some time ago, but only a few manu's have made any models, and most were way more clunky and pricey than MS intended.

I'd hate to say it, but you're going to have to wait until the personal media player and GPS fads die down a bit, because right now that's where the market is. Maybe someday we'll have nice, sleek tablet pc's loaded with speed, space, and capabilities, but it's at least a few years down the road.

I been thru all 18 pages on this subject but still not clear on the process of upgrading my X30 from A05 to A06... Any help will be much appreciated

Is there a titourial written by someone in this forum or the instructions provided by Dell's is sufficient

I do not want to backup anything I just want to install the latest rom - A06 and reinstall everything else from scratch. Do I need any hard reset?

cheers

A06 seems to be less stable than A05... besides the wifi power 25% limit. A06 doesn't really do much...

think I'll restore it to A05 as well... but it seems like alot of work... :-(

I know this was covered in the thread somewhere but I can't seem to find it. If I back up the current A03 and install A05 then restore will I have to re-do all the settings for the desktop and settings... I'm using PPX Version 2.50 as a today screen replacement/enhancement
Thanks, Mark

Hi

read my post from earlier. my wifi/ explorer became inoperable due to A06. I did a hard restore hoping this would take the OS back to the factory version A00- no luck. I also tried to re-install an earlier version (A02) from Dell and this was rejected by A06.

can you or anyone tell me how to remove the current A06 version and e-mail me a version ( or link) that works?

many thanks again, in anticipation

Hi . A06 was a mess for me too ... I went to A03 (original) had a battery run down somehow and damaged the 1g SD card sent it back and used the old 256m and install A05 and works fine :approve:
here's the link for A05 http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=114043

Folks,

I upgraded to A06 from A05 and this messed up the wifi connection. My X30high can see the router but cannot connect to it; and the router assigned IP reads (0.0.0.0) or (169. etc). This means no association and the router supplier cannot help.

Prior to the A06 install I backed up and the file is called A05_C_10070400EN.RIS. However, the restore is looking for a file called Backup.stg . Does anyone know if/how the .RIS file can be converted to .stg? This may help with the wifi IP problem above.

My other thought is to delete A06 and go back to A05. However, the A05 download is rejected since the dialogue box says you cannot downgraded versions. Is there another way of doing the retro-fix?

many thanks

all you need to do is run the R101483.EXE file and when it asks you what to do restore/backup -- Upgrade, choose restore and the "A05_C_10070400EN.RIS" you backed up prior to the A06 install it will restore to the A05 version no problem. That's what I did to mine.
