I installed is and NO IT IS NOT WM 5, trust me. It doesn't even look like it. It looks exactly the same, except it's got some better features. ONE WORTH NOTING: No longer will the 802.11B Wireless antenna turn off until YOU THE USER turns it off! No more "25% - must turn off" crap... If you have a high-cap battery, it's more like 50% remaining (in comparison to 950mAh) Anyway, yeah bluetooth seems a little better... I've had no problems so far. Worth the trouble, I'd say. Also gave me an excuse to upgrade some programs, and my filing system (put as many programs as you can into BUILT-IN STORAGE... saves much RAM - runs faster. OK, well I've spoken for long enough. Bye for now.

I just noticed something kinda crappy. I use Alert Technologies ATBluetooth to toggle bluetooth on and off. I don't know what changed, but after this update, it doesn't work even after reinstalling.

I just did a full backup with ActiveSync, applied the update, and followed the directions in the help file for restoring the data. So far, it's been the easiest update of the three or so that I've applied.

Well the last time the X50 rom was updated the UK was nearly a week behind (And my Axim can still spell humour properly so it was worth the wait )

Installed OK and seems to be running OK (so far!). Just the one gotcha for us UK bods. Had initial problem restoring from backup but this was due to default regional settings in new A06 ROM being English US and the backup being English UK. Change regional settings to what you had when the backup was taken and Bob's your uncle.

The Funk Odyssey client DOES seem to go back to the older version once you restore from Dell's Data Backup utility. That would explain the ~2.8 MB of used storage RAM after a hard reset... Funk is getting copied from ROM to RAM, and is vulnerable to overwrite by backup restores.

hmm A06 broke my wifi power saving. It used to consume ~100mA on idle, now it consumes ~300mA. battery life is MUCH shorter with wifi on.

Funk workaround
Here's the workaround for the Funk client version:

If you do the A06 update, and then restore your files from a backup, you must finally copy
\Windows\OdClientCE.exe
to
\Program Files\Funk Software\OdClientCE.exe

The executable in the Windows directory is in ROM, and therefore remains the same new (updated) version from the A06 update, regardless of the files you restore from a backup.

The executable in Program Files is in RAM, but is the one that is executed.

Doesn't doing a full restore overwrite any new changes in the registry since it puts the old registry back on there?

Is there a program that shows you exact power usage or do you just average it out by keeping the PDA on until the battery dies?

i use todaywarrior which tells you current draw. And I use uptime to confirm that predicted battery life is indeed much shorter.
