I performed the update and came back up from my Sprite back up without a problem. I love Sprite. I had been having some problems with Avantgo that magically resolved themselves with this update. Not sure how that happened...
1. Added feature that allows the WLAN auto power-off feature to be enabled and/or disabled in the Power applet.
2. Updated the Funk Odyssey client to version 2.00.00.1681
3. Updated the Bluetooth stack to version 1.5.0.4300
4. Added support for Go Daddy SSL certificate
I don't know if I will update right away or not. I don't feel like taking the time, but the Bluetooth stack update is tempting. I wonder what it does.
wtf is this Go Daddy stuff, some local domain name provider?
anyways i shouldn't bitch at a fix...
Okay I'm still confused to why power management stopped working but I might have figured it out from playing with it all morning. After the update, I noticed that current draw increased tremendously when the wifi was on but idle. Power management is supposed to turn most of the wifi off at this point which is why current used to be around ~100mA. So I thought the only reason current shot up to ~300mA after the update must be because the power management system somehow ceased functioning. It didn't matter whether oddysey was on or off. However, I reverted back to the old ROM using the SD card trick and found that the problem still persisted...
I tried re-enabling power management on and off with no luck. I tried re-enabling wifi and bluetooth inbetween soft resets with no luck. I knew that the new ROM updated some wireless programs like oddysey so I disabled oddysey and connected the normal way and noticed that the current draw dropped down to normal levels! I can't explain why this is because earlier it didn't matter whether oddysey was on or off. So what I'm thinking is that maybe the ROM update had some kind of interaction with the old oddysey or the full backup I performed which changed something in oddysey that made it perform strangely. Instead of conencting to <any> i set it connect to my specfic network and I think the current dropped down even more, but it could just be me. Perhaps odyssey pings the network or searches for others while wifi is supposed to be idle, thereby not letting power management kick in.
I don't know, but if anyone else is having this problem, try some of the stuff I did and see if it works for you.
Great deduction! So Odyssey client's new version uses the wifi much more actively, increasing power consumption. Either this is because:
a) more active wifi use is necessary to maximize compatibility with wifi security protocols that Funk uses, or
b) this is a bug in Funk's new client, and will require Dell to give us A07 when they fix it!
Any excuse for Dell to push out future updates is good, eh?
Haha, I just bricked my x30h cos I forgot which version you have to flash - combined or non-combined. It gets to the today screen after booting then freezes. Heh, a fun evening ensues trying to de-brick my pda :<

Hmm I'm still scratching my head about this. Further use seems to support that the new client doesn't increase power usage. Now i'm using odyssey and the current draw is back to normal. I'm going to backup and hard reset to see if I can recreate the problem again... now i'm curious!
Can anyone tell me which one of the two files I am meant to flash to a x30 high? With the 'C' I get crash when it starts up - 'N' won't even load?
When I was downgrading from A06 to A05 I discovered that C is the correct version for my x30 mid. N wouldn't load for me either. Maybe C is wireless-enabled? I'm not sure why yours crashes :( Why not use Dell's update program?
Because the pins are all screwed up on the bottom and now it won't sync :)
EDIT: Does the same with the A05 ROM as well now :/
I know if it's still under warrantee, dell will honor it for the pins. This is a known problem with the earlier pin design without the board if I remember correctly. You should give them a call!
