Thanks jnevins, but I don't think this will work - I've tried loads of the ROMs from the Dell site, and they all do the same freezing at start up thing.

Yeah, and I would say be very carefully with the bootloaders trick - I'm pretty sure it's not meant to be used for flashing like this - only for emergencies I would say. If anyone else with bent pins wants new upgrade, I would get the $25 connector from pdasmart, rather then the new $400 pda.

EDIT: Sorry firestorym i missed your post :)

Basically, what happened;
1) Pins bent
2) Upgraded to A06 via SD card, but froze on startup
3) I thought i had put the wrong version on, hence my post
4) Now none of the ROMs boot - they all hang at the wireless enabled screen in the kinda tutorial thing or at today screen.

You can downgrade by downloading the A05 ROM off dell's ftp site. Put the file (either C or N) found in the /rom folder (after extracting) onto the root of a sd card. The C type works for mid, N type wouldn't load. Then hold down thumbwheel in and contact, while quickly pressing the reset button. Then release thumbwheel and contact after a couple seconds.

Do this at your own risk. It's probably not as safe as dell's program (which doesn't let you downgrade argh!) Good luck!

I noticed that some of the 1.5 files on the A06 rom are dated as newer than that 1.6 stack...is the 1.6 stack still "more advanced" than the 1.5 on this rom?

Thanks Chihiro! That did it. Restore worked fine after setting the regional settings to my country.
Great hint.

That's odd that it doesn't work anymore. Maybe it has something to do with the pins being bent, are they shorting? I would make sure none of the pins are touching each other. I don't know what else to say. I hope you figure it out and save your axim!

I can't get it to work...can I have other data at root folder of sd card?
(You said hold down thumbwheel in and contact, while quickly pressing the reset button. Then release thumbwheel and contact after a couple seconds)
Can someone please email me their rom a05 backup (using yousendit if possible or send me a link....cuz 32MB file is too big for hotmail or gmail)?
Thanks

It is an online service that lets you send large files. Basicly you upload it to their site (up to 1GB) and they email the person you want to get it with a link to the file on their server. Pretty convenient service if you don't mind someone else holding the file for you.

I can host the files if anyone needs it... To go back to A05 using the SD card trick -
Get the . file from the A05 update folder
Put it in the root of your sd card.
Press Contacts, Scroll in and Reset all at the same time

Be warned though, although lots of people have used this method many times, it just happened to completely screw my axim up.. :)
