Hi again, sorry about the long delay between posts. I think now that my problem isn't the same as the issue here but i will give an update anyway on my solution.
I finally got the problem sorted out. In that i can now surf effectively and quickly. It turned out that I was able to access other networks but not my own with IE. I attribute this to perhaps some sort of javascript issue with ie and the authentication controller software. However i installed the netfront browser and was able to use this to surf with lightning speed on my own and other networks. So now i'm totally chuffed again with my dell axim x30. cheers and thanks for your help folks, jonathon.

Hi all, I have had an X30h for 6 months and never had a problem with WiFi. Well, not until recently when all of the sudden it wouldn't connect to my wireless network at home. I get the same sypmtoms, it is trying to reconnect every 2-3 seconds. I checked the registry and the domain was the one of my home network, I deleted it with no success. With the Dell WLAN Utility, I can't even "Enable Radio". Any other ideas?

I have tried multiple soft resets with no succes. I will try reseting the router. Do you think a hard reset would work? In this case I would only need to backup my contacts and calendar. Is there any way to make a backup and restore only of these two?

Thans in advance.

A hard reset would work but try resetting router first and like i said if you have a recent backup .

I finally figured out my problem. The Linksys WMP11 is a huge piece of crap. I never expected the card to be the problem because the rest of the network works fine. I borrowed a USB 802.11g card and everything works great now. If you have the WMP11 card and you are having problems you may want to replace it. I will be replacing my WMP11 soon and I will post the replacement card & the results.

P.S. I tapped this out downstairs sitting on the couch :)

So, it was interfering with your Axim being able to connect? I believe that's the card I have in my machine at home.

I would have to say yes mrn8. This is the third day I have used the usb wifi card and I still haven't had any problems connecting. Another pc in the house also has the WMP11 and it has done nothing but cause problems. It drops connections at random and also causes the machine to hang during shutdown. Luckily, the card doesn't reek havoc on my pc but it still doesn't function properly.

My new card should be arriving today. I will post how things turn out.
This is the card I am getting. It's cheap, has 802.11g, and has gotten decent reviews.

hmm.. mine was set to vc.shawcable.net. I guess its the default network that the Ax searches for first or its the last connected one.

this Domain value was obtained from the wifi router. I guess some routers don't send this specific value in the DHCP response so the PDA uses insightbb.com or blank as default.

I've had this problem many times in the past. and soft reseting did nothing but wasted 30sec of my life. :-(

but my solution to this problem: because sometimes for some odd reason the WLAN utility doesn't connect to the prefered network. but that doesn't mean the network is not detected.

So to WLAN -> "edit wireless network profiles"

you will see the network is actually listed in there as Available. but not Connected. so to manually connect, hold stylus on the selection and a menu will show up. tap on CONNECT and you got WIFI running!!

hope that helps.

The new card has done the trick. I have gone six days without any connection problems. I'm not afraid to turn my Axim off anymore :) I like this card a lot and the included software is also pretty good. The signal is not as strong as I would like but it still covers the whole house (2300 square feet). Later on I will get a hi gain antenna for the gateway machine (my pc) to solve this.

Here are a couple of tips I have found useful for this card.

1. Don't accidentally put the WMP11 antenna on this card. I did and my pc would not POST for some reason.
2. Disable the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" option on the gateway machine.
3. Use the Odyssey client on the Axim.

I may post a better review in the next few days. I had two teeth pulled yesterday and this medicine is getting to me LOL. I just wanted to let anyone interested know that the card did help before the rebate offer expired.

@Seawolf
That hardly ever worked for me and I have tried hundreds of times.

EDIT: I tried using the WMP11 antenna again today and it works fine. The only thing I did different was remove the rubber from the base of the antenna, it pulls right off. I did the same on the pc downstairs and no problems there either. I even gained 30 percent on the signal to the downstairs pc. I think my modem was causing the problem. It has been acting a bit dodgy for a little while.

Sorry to bump this thread - but I'm having a bit of trouble connecting.

Heres my synopsis from another thread:

Help w/ Wifi Access - after UG to A06

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, well, I had A03 previously in my Axim X30. I was trying to get BT to work with my new Razr phone for OBEX, and I read that I needed to update to A06 to allow for the BT stack to work.

My Axim worked fine before - now, i try to connect to the network and it says "connecting" but never conects. I can find the network just fine. I've tried the Oddysey client and the Dell WLAN utility to no avail.

The network is Open, WEP encrypted with a passkey which is the phone number. My question is, where do I put the passkey in in Oddysey Client? I think this may be the problem. I tried and when I select WEP the passkey option is faded out; the next screen allows me to place in up to 4 network keys but the passkey is none of those.

In the Dell WLAN utility, I do the same thing - authenitcaiton OPEN, WEP key, which I put in the "Network Key" box. Still no working.

I had it working on A03 - are there any known problems with A06?

Thanks!

I have a Linksys WRT54G router at home, and about 5 computers with wifi access on the network. My router findst eh connections easily enough but then just hangs on "connecting....."

I hope it helps go wireless

Hi everyone,

I’d just like to share my experience about the wireless topic.
I recently bought low used (on eBay) Dell Axim X30 624Mhz WM2003SE A05 and took me some time to make it connect with my wireless router DI-524 (D-Link).
My Axim was eternally searching and never connects and only after a hard reset and a very careful router setting it works.
So I’d recommend backup and reset your PPC and reset you router too.
Also take a look at the site http://wifi.aximsite.com/wifi_net.html by Ikehiker that is a very good reference to solve wireless problems and set up routers.

Good luck! :)

BTW: My PPC doesn't have the Domain register mentioned in this thread.

That was it for me, as well. I've successfully connected at work and Panera Bread, so I swapped the wireless card in my desktop at home, and that allowed me to connect.
