FIXED X30 Wifi won't stop scanning FIXED!!!
I think I may have found the solution to a problem with the WiFi on the X30!! I am talking about the problem where the Axim keeps scanning over your network without ever stopping. After several hours of messing with my X30 (mid) today I have found a registry tweak that has seems to have solved the issue instantly. It turns out all of my Axims have had their domain set to insightbb.com for some odd reason. I changed this to the correct domain (MSHOME.NET for use with Windows ICS) and now my Axim X30 connects in about five seconds :) I have also tried this tweak leaving the domain blank and this seems to work also. This fix has been tried on two X30's and has worked on both.
If you would like to try this tweak manually install a registry editor and change the value below. After you change it you will need to perform a soft reset for the change to take affect.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ODIM\WLAGS46B1\Parms\TCPIP]
"Domain"="insightbb.com"
You can also download two registry files I've made to change it for you. There's one for Windows ICS and the one where it sets the domain to blank. Download and extract the zip file containing both registry files. Copy the correct one onto your Axim then merge it into your registry. Now soft reset your Axim and fire up the WiFi.
REMEMBER it's a always a good idea to make a backup before messing around with the registry so please do so before trying this fix. You shouldn't need it for this but better safe than sorry.
Good luck, I hope this works for you too:)

Interesting, mine was set to 'nomadix.com'. The site appears to sell wifi access gateway products, & such.
I deleted that entry, soft reset, & my router is now detected almost instantaneously!

I’m really glad it worked for you too AximX30User. I don’t know about you, but this problem was close to driving me insane LOL.

Networking is my ultimate weakness. My domain was set to: hvc.rr.com, however, that is my cable company for internet.
Can anyone explain that?

Best explanation I can think of would be certain websites with scripts that alter the setting when you access them.
Mine has remained blank since I cleared it and I've been to all the usual sites I go to on my Axim.

PHM Regedit is a good one and the one I use. Download it from here: http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/

I'm not sure what causes this problem. My best guess is that the Axim sets itself to the first domain that it connects to and assumes that is your own network. A couple of my neighbors have broadband on wifi and I used that a time or two before I set up my own network. InsightBB is a major player in my area so chances are that is what the neighbors have.
rdehavenl, The registry editor that comes with Resco Explorer is also very nice. It's not free like PHM Regedit though.
DanmanX, are you having problems connecting with it set to that domain? If so you may want to try using the blank registry file I posted to see if that helps.

I have a new axim - got it last week, and I dont have the domain entry in my registry settings at all. I wonder if this issue has been resolved recently by Dell.
Dave.

I dont even have the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ODIM\WLAGS46B1\Parms\TCPIP ]
"Domain"="insightbb.com" key in my registry. I upgraded to A06 and then back to A05...wonder if that had anything to do with it. My Axim is almost a year old now.

Thats strange - today I started to get the scanning problem as well, so I re-checked my registry and guess what - a new registry entry called domain has appeared with a value of "Home". I did connect to a few different wifi networks today as I was travelling around, so maybe I picked it up somewhere (I am guessing one of them had a domain of Home). Anyway, when I blanked it out the problem went away.
Dave.

Are you performing a soft reset after you edit the domain key? This fix doesn't work until you do.

There is one more key I found but haven't mentioned. Try blanking this key and see if that helps.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Tcpip\Parms]
"DNSDomain"=""
EDIT: Have you tried connecting after disabling Wifi companion? If not give that a shot too.
