Ok, so I'm curious about a few things...

I've never owned a PDA before, so excuse me if I have a few dumb questions about them. I just ordered an x30h off of ebay. I had to buy it, the deal was just too good not to. Not that I really have a use for it, but eh.. Why not.

Ok, so basically, my plans for the gps are modest, I mainly want to use it for navigation (with gps), and possibly use the wifi for aim and irc at work (if I have a signal there). What options are there for GPS. Apparently this unit doesn't support CF, so the only option would be bluetooth, I assume. Do the cheaper gps units on ebay work as well as the more expensive ones? I already aquired iguidance, and I'll assume that's decent for gps?

Also, with the SD cards, how much does the axim support? And, if the unit completely powers off, everything on that SD card is completely gone?

I dunno, these are just some fairly stupid questions, but I'm just curious about this thing. Oh, and one more thing, I've read a few places that you can install linux on it. Does anyone know what kind of hardware support is out there for it? I don't want to buy a bt keyboard or a gps unit if its not going to be supported if I switch it to linux.

Thanks a lot though, I've read a lot through this site and you guys have given me a few ideas.

Yes, they will work, but probably are not as good as the brand name once. i.e Possibly have weaker signal, take longer to get a fix, limited support.

The axim can support pretty much as big as you can buy. The biggest at the moment is 2gb, which works in the Axim.

Hardware support in linux is pretty limited - if you are new to Pocket PCs then it will probably be best to stick with Windows Mobile, at least until you know your way around that :-)

The Axim has 3 sections of memory

1) Main Memory which can be lost if battery goes. In here I keep all my "today screen" programs.
2) Built in Storage or BIS, this is 64mb of memory that is safe from power loss.
3) SD card..safe from power loss.

I keep all my day to day operating programs in BIS and files/doc etc on SD card.

There are some great tutorials on this site. Take some time to read them because it will save you lots of time in the long run.

Enjoy your new Axim

www.arkon.com has some good GPS systems and setups. The have powered PDA mounts for your Axim too that hang on the windhield or a fan housing on your car so you can more easily see the GPS stuff on the screen
