Charging via USB port when axim switched off

I have just read a few posts describing how the sync and charge cables are not able to provide enough current from the USB port to charge and power to axim and can, in fact, cause a complete battery discharge. I have just got one myself, and notice that the orange light is intermitently flashing on and off if I connect it with the axim switched on.

However, when I switch the axim off but leave it connected, the orange light stays on. Does this mean that it is successfully charging the battery?

Dave.

That happend to me when i was trying to charge it with my laptop that only has USB 1(Dell Inspiron 8200) on holiday, and would not charge my X5.

However when im at work and using my work laptop (Dell Latitude D800) that has USB 2 it charges nicely.

Perhaps this is a issue between USB 1 and USB 2?

Yes, a steady orange light means it's charging. :)

Should not matter, Both USB1.1 and USB2 have the same standards for power sourcing. You should get 100mA with a non registered device (if u connect axim and put it in standby before it connects) or 500mA when u connect it.
