HELP!!! SCreen died??? After screen saver application.

Put on a new screen saver, used credit card and pressed it down. Now there is no response to screen taps! When I soft rest I get the message "Can Not start the program" . Eventually it boots and message goes way ... I can sync, pushing buttons responds fine but screen is "dead".. help!

Take off the screen protector, do a soft reset and see if it gets back to normal. If so, it's the way you have applied the protector or the quality of the protector itself. Try to avoid sliding the edges of the protector beyond the edge of the visible screen surface. What brand are you using?

Worried

Got them off of ebay... no name brand Tried what u suggested and still getting message and no screen response. I leave for vacation in 2 days and I am in a panic! Any other ideas? I have never done a hard reset and dread it...think that will help? I will look for instructions on doing that... I am at A0 on this X30 so if I have to hard reset I might as well upgrade but dont know how.

So you've already tried a soft reset and it didn't work? To do a hard reset, just hold down the power button and do a soft reset at the same time. If that doesn't work, take out the main battery, wait an hour and the device will do a forced hard reset. Do you have a backup you can restore to? That would make the recovery process much more painless. :)

If you're leaving soon, I wouldn't bother with the ROM upgrade right now. Just try to get your device back in working condition and have a good trip. ;)

Sounds like the screen protector was interferring with the screen taps but same thing with screen protector gone. MAybe pudhed too hard with credit card but when all else fails you should do hard reset....ah the joys of backing up. You will not lose anything in main memory or SD card.

Whew! After 3rd soft reset post protector removal, it worked! Very scary, I was relying on this for long plane trip (ebooks and audiobooks), maps, music etc. All is well now and when I get back maybe I will do that upgrade (if I can find the dell link to the new ROM, it seems to be gone). Thanks for all the support!!

Before you do anything else, make a backup and keep it in a safe place! ;)

BTW, if you want a good backup solution for your travels, I'd recommend Sprite Backup since it has a self-executing restore option. This means that if for whatever reason, you need to do a hard reset, all you have to do is locate the backup file (stored in Built-in-Storage or memory card because these locations are not affected by a hard reset), tap on it and your restore will proceed. You do not need to be connected to a PC.

Congratulations on fixing the problem. Hopefully it won't happen again. I would definitely make a backup.

Great idea about backup on the road

Great idea, :approve: I will get sprite and backup to my 1gig card, would be a drag to have a problem on the road and not have a backup.
