Newbee needs basic help.

Hello. I'm Bob M. I just got an Axim x30 32MB ram/rom on evilbay. I bought a 1GB SD card and wanted to know how to download music to the SD card only because the internal memory is used up already.
Thanks Much. Bob M.

Welcome to Aximsite!

The easiest and fastest way is to use a card reader. If you don't have one, connect your Axim to your PC via ActiveSync. In ActiveSync, click on File then Explorer. Copy and paste the music files over.

Welcome to Aximsite,

The transfer rate is very slow using ActiveSync and explorer. You have two choices to speed this up. Buy a card reader or get Card Reader II at www.softick.com. This software will make your Axim tranfer data at the same speed as if using a card reader plugged into a USB port.

Thanks I did that. It defaults to the internal memory. The files that is DOES load to the internal memory, load extremely slow. I'm not doing something right.

I think you have to start ActiveSync, click Explore, double-click My PocketPC (or something similar), then double-click SD Card in order to access your SD card. I don't have ActiveSync right here in front of me (at work computer), but that's pretty much how it goes. If you just drop the files when you click Explore, then they default into your RAM.

Ok put your PPC in the cradle and open ActiveSync.
On the top of activeSync program click the icon named Explore.
In the new window double-click the top icon available named My Pocket PC.
You will see the SD Card in the next window.
Copy your Music files there.

Now it wont even open WMP because there is not enough ram to run it. I may have to wipe it.

just open a file explorer on your Ax and delete unneeded files.
It's also possible to transfer files around your Ax from the file explorer.

To clear you RAM of the unwanted file
In the same window after clicking Explore you should see the files.
Just delete them or move (Cut and Paste) to the SD Card.

Probably but we can't help unless a question is asked. It isn't easy when you get your first PPC. I see users at work struggling for weeks others for just a few hours. He knows that we are here to help so he will post if needed. I can add images to my explanations if needed. Also I have a link in my View MyPDA to ACtiveSync tutorial.

I think it's more of a file-management issue on the Ax itself. Of course, becoming more familiar with ActiveSync can also help. He probably just needs to open up "My Pocket PC" under Active sync and open the SD Card folder.
Hey, rockbobmel, once you get past the learning curve, it's really quite a dandy gadget. Free up RAM. You might have to open up (on your Axim) Settings, System tab, Memory, Running Programs tab, and close programs to free up some more RAM.
